Having the kitchen open to the dining room is ideal for many reasons. One being that people can serve themselves on the island without having to transfer all of the food to the table. It also encourages people to sit at the dining table without the fear of feeling left out.

Ancient SurfacesAncient Surfaces
A lovely Juxtaposition of our ancient reclaimed Biblical Stone in an ultra-modern kitchen setting. Unlike many modern kitchens you'll see in design magazines or on the internet, this kitchen feels warm thanks to the Beige/white colored appliances, cabinets and island that comfortably merges with the earth toned ancient Biblical Stone.

This kitchen island backs up to a fairly narrow walkway, so seating was not an option, as stools would have been too tight. Instead we created 12 inch deep cabinets on the backside to house the owner's Le Creucet collection. For a seamless look, we left off any hardware. All other cabinets in this home have soft-close hinges, with the exception of these, since we chose to leave off the knobs.

Impluvium Architecture Location: Copperopolis, CA, USA This project was a direct referral from a friend. I was the Architect and helped coordinate with various sub-contractors. I also co-designed the project with various consultants including Interior and Landscape Design I really enjoyed working with the owner on the materials / finishes / interior design including the outdoor areas. This house I brought in a number of very traditional details from Italy. Photographed by: Tim Haley
