This 1950's home was chopped up with the segmented rooms of the period. The front of the house had two living spaces, separated by a wall with a door opening, and the long-skinny hearth area was difficult to arrange. The kitchen had been remodeled at some point, but was still dated. The homeowners wanted more space, more light, and more MODERN. So we delivered.
We knocked out the walls and added a beam to open up the three spaces. Luxury vinyl tile in a warm, matte black set the base for the space, with light grey walls and a mid-grey ceiling. The fireplace was totally revamped and clad in cut-face black stone.
Cabinetry and built-ins in clear-coated maple add the mid-century vibe, as does the furnishings. And the geometric backsplash was the starting inspiration for everything.
We'll let you just peruse the photos, with before photos at the end, to see just how dramatic the results were!

Open architecture with exposed beams and wood ceiling create a natural indoor/outdoor ambiance in this midcentury remodel. The kitchen has a bold hexagon tile backsplash and floating shelves with a vintage feel.

This ranch-style home needed updating. The load bearing wall that had separated the kitchen from the living room was removed to make way for a larger kitchen with a breakfast bar island and new lighting, and bring in the view out the back windows. New, floor-to-ceiling dining room cabinets with a wet bar were added to cover one wall.

This beautiful Mid-Century was in desperate need of updating in both form and function. Keeping the original ceilings (which had a slope we needed to mind) helped keep the 50's style. The two tone made it so that the kitchen was broken up instead of being one very long white kitchen. Adding the windows on the exterior wall completely brightened up the space too.

This home was built in 1960 and retains all of its original interiors. This photograph shows the kitchen and breakfast area. The furniture, artwork, new backsplash tile, new granite countertop, and new appliances were added. The original walnut paneled walls, walnut cabinetry, and plank linoleum flooring was restored. We kept the original vent hood as it still functioned perfectly, but also helped to retain the unique character of the space.
