The family room on the lower floor is the only room with a TV, set up for family movie-night and board games. The ethanol fireplace provides cosiness and warmth. The gym attached to the space allows for yoga or rowing or boxing, for now.

A couple’s brick fireplace was an eyesore that reminded them they longed for a more modern style home. Embracing their secret desire for a simple geometric concrete fireplace surround was a game changer that inspired a first floor modern remodel. Because the fireplace is between built-in bookcases, fabricating the polished concrete directly over the existing brick and covering the rest with drywall eliminated damage and reduced project cost.

Custom built TV Cabinet by Vorrath Woodworks. The doors bi-fold open and stay in the open position by the use of mortised magnets. The TV is on a fully adjustable mount, and can be pulled out into the space as well as tilted up, down, left, and right. There is a hidden, push open access door on the right side of the cabinet to conceal wires and cable boxes etc.

The white wash hardwood floors extend into the family room, creating a warm, relaxed space. Clean lines once again provide a minimalist space, while textural variety ensures the space is inviting and comfortable
