No room for turf in this front yard! The two foot high retaining wall helps to elevate and separate perennial plantings. From the first blooming bulbs in spring, to the late blooming purple asters in autumn, this yard is a plant lover's delight all growing season. Pathway steppers allow for easy gardening access to remove spent blooms (aka-deadheading), and the diversity of flowers provides food for a variety of well-known and elusive pollinators.

This oriental-themed landscape invokes a feeling of tranquillity and serenity, whether the occasion is simply relaxation or friendly entertainment. Immediately connected to the outdoor kitchen area is a beautiful bluestone koi pool with water plants, fish and steppers, which leads to the spotted gum decking area and corten steel firepit. Under-lighting of the floating benches surrounding the decking creates a stunning seating area. The most visually striking feature piece of the landscape is without doubt the enormous Buddha, installed against stone cladding, rendered walls and timber screening. Incredibly impressive! Enhancing the oriental theme is an abundance of lush vegetation surrounding the entire area – clumping bamboo, a massive bird of paradise, trees, under-planting and a luscious lawn. Strategically placed garden lighting makes for a spectacular outdoor entertainment area for these lucky clients in Maribyrnong.

This garden was overgrown and not used at all by the property owners. The homeowners wanted a contemporary courtyard that was family friendly and modern. To achieve this, materials were chosen to match the stylish interior of the house. Also by using lighter coloured material we were able to brighten up the garden. The printed porcelain paving gave a contemporary modern feel whilst introducing added interest. Cedar batten fencing was used to clad the boundaries to minimise the oppressive feel of the high boundaries and to introduce more light into the garden. The cedar timber floating bench now provides a place to sit and entertain. It is also the perfect height for the clients’ children to use as a play bench. To brighten up the dull and dark corner by the french doors, the original steps were clad in beautiful blue and grey encaustic tiles to add much needed colour and interest in an area that had been previously neglected. This contemporary courtyard is now bright and welcoming and used by the property owners and their children on a daily basis.

New construction and original landscaping completed in 2010. Original design had boulders between the driveway and home to minimize the stop and create curb appeal. An assortment of unusual trees (lions head maple, moon rise maple, hinokie cypress, twisted baby locus, and paper bark maple and others) were installed to compliment the home on the naturally wooded lot. Many different perennials and flowering shrubs were installed between these unique specimen trees to provide interest throughout the year. Phase 2 was initiated by the homeowner in 2016 were we landscaped the backyard, which was overgrown with wild trees. It was cleared to create a more useable space and play area for children. Our design team created a master landscape plan and was an integral part with the approval process with the municipality. We worked in tandem with an engineering firm to design and install a bio-retention pond. The pond was designed to take all of the runoff from the newly landscaped backyard. Wet loving plants were incorporated into the pond to beautify the area and absorb the water. A custom, multi-level play set was installed over artificial turf to blend with the newly expanded lawn area. An assortment of trees, shrubs and perennial were installed on the hillside separating the upper yard and newly expanded lower area. Low voltage landscape lighting was expanded to highlight the new plantings and provide light for the children to play in the evening. Our landscape design complimented he newly installed covered outdoor living space.
