I have been working as a kitchen and bath designer in the Pacific Northwest for 13 years. I love engaging with new clients, ascertaining their needs through various interviews and meetings and then collaborating as we build their finished concept together. The variety of design styles, room layouts and function changes so much between one person and the next that no two finished products are remotely the same. This fluidity allows for endless possibilities for exploration in my field. It keeps the job interesting and has always given me a particular sense of reward and accomplishment as we near completion. The greatest personal recompense in this chosen profession is being able to walk with a client through this process and come out the other side with that client feeling elated with the end result.

Gilmans Kitchens and Baths
With this homeowner being a geologist, they were looking for a very earthy, stone-based feel. The stone for the countertop was selected first, and then a bright color was found to match the rusted stone esthetic. The window was also opened to give life to the owner’s beautiful view and grey upper-cabinets were used to tie the appliances into the rest of the design. Under-cabinet lighting was added as well to keep the space bright and functional throughout the evening.

Overhead kitchen cabinets originally above the cooktop made the kitchen feel dark and cramped. To create a brighter open space the bank of upper cabinets were removed and a new airy glass range-hood was installed. A full-height wall of new white subway tile with a colorful, horizontal band of custom-made glass tile gives this Mid-Century kitchen personality while visually expanding the space. New cobalt blue quartz countertops create the WOW.
