Referencing the art deco period in which the apartment was build, a curved range hood finished in linear kit kat Japanese tiles forms the focal point of the kitchen. Light timber laminate for full height joinery with dark grey / charcoal ultra matte laminate for below bench cupboards and drawers. Quartzite bench tops in a leathered finish.

The rear extension is expressed as a simple gable form. The addition steps out to the full width of the block, and accommodates a second bathroom in addition to a tiny shed accessed on the rear facade. The remaining 2/3 of the facade is expressed as a recessed opening with sliding doors and a gable window.

The old Victorian stair was replace by a new oak one with concealed stringer and a powdercoated steel handrail.

The client came to comma design in need of an upgrade to their existing kitchen to allow for more storage and cleaner look. They wanted to swap their laminate bench to a sleek stone bench tops that can provide a luxurious loo to their space. Comma design worked closely with the trades on site to achieve the results.

This stunning main bathroom is very inviting.

The brief was to have a functional kitchen design that is beautiful with clean finishes and lots of additional storage. We designed cabinetry and wine storage on the living room side of the penninsula bench and an overhead cabinet to allow glassware to be accessed from both sides.

The existing apartment is a contemporary build which didn’t require any major changes to the structural layout. However, in order to feel more warm and inviting, the space needed to be uplifted with new flooring, painting, furniture, joinery and the addition of more personal features. Within the existing footprint, thoughtful furniture planning was required in the main living area to create defined spaces that flow and connect well to each other.

A breezeway entry creates a stately entrance to the properties front door. While a small internal courtyard spills from the formal dining room out into an elegant retreat. A formal urn with a topiary ball, buxus hedging and a diamond patterned trellis training Star Jasmine finish off the design and further replicate the unique, style, class and statement of this property as a whole.
