This Edwardian living room was lacking enthusiasm and vibrancy and needed to be brought back to life. A lick of paint can make all the difference!
We wanted to bring a rich, deep colour to this room to give it that cosy, warm feeling it was missing while still allowing this room to fit in with the period this home was built in. We also had to go with a colour that matched the light green and gold curtains that were already in the room.
The royal, warm green we chose looks beautiful and makes more of an impact when you walk in. We went for an ivory cream colour on the picture rails and moulding to emphasise the characteristics of this period home and finished the room off with a bright white on the ceiling and above the picture rail to brighten everything up.

This house is firmly planted in the Shenandoah Valley, while its inspiration is tied to the owner’s British ancestry and fondness for English country houses.
The main level of the house is organized with the living room and the kitchen / dining spaces flanking a center hall and an open staircase (which is open up to the attic level). A conservatory connects an entry and mud room to the kitchen. On the attic level, a roof deck embraces expansive views of the property and the Blue Ridge Mountains to the southeast.

We turned one open space into two distinct spaces. The home owner opted to have the pianist face away from the room in order to allow for more seating. The goal was to enhance the home owners suite of inherited wood furniture by adding color and art. Interior Design by AJ Margulis Interiors. Photos by Paul Bartholomew

A traditional mantle decorated with a modern twist. A faux fur and crystal wreath sets the stage for glittered trees, pinecones and evergreens.

This beautiful, vaulted space was once a low-ceilinged Kitchen with small windows and not enough counter space. We added windows and removed the ceiling, creating a light and bright space perfect for cozying up with a book or snuggling in for movie night.

Removing a few walls opens up this little living room to the adjacent dining room, and keeps the cozy feeling without the claustrophobia. New built-in book shelves flank the fireplace, providing ample library space for window seat reading. A hanging chandelier provides light an elegant atmosphere, added to by matching pink chairs, ivory busts, and large area rugs. This cozy retreat is in the Panhandle in San Francisco.
