A renovation of a heritage Devonport Villa which encompassed a large basement dig out and then extension. The villa features have all been retained and restored in the upstairs level and the exterior. So you are surprised when you walk down the oak stairs to the modern and sleek downstairs living space that flows effortlessly into the outdoor entertaining and pool area.

A large lake-front site at Clearwater Golf Resort is the setting for this spectacular home designed for an extended family. The house comprises a central two-storey core with single storey wings extending out into the landscape on either side, one incorporates a separate 2-bedroom family apartment, the other an indoor pool & gym. The design incorporates Feng Shui principles and we worked closely with the client to achieve their requirements.
Hinuera stone is used extensively on the house cladding and landscape elements, complemented with oiled cedar weatherboards, timber decking, concrete and basalt paving. Internally the home is finished in materials such as ancient swamp kauri timber, black porcelain tiled floors, wool carpet and Hinuera stone feature elements. Energy efficiency was carefully considered and high levels of insulation were specified. To help minimise running costs a ground source heat pump was used for hydronic floor heating and domestic hot water.
Outdoor living is provided with a range of spaces accessed from the living areas and pool. Extensive rolling lawns meet meandering stream & lake edges, with carefully considered planting following a consistent theme.

The deck was originally a tired and underutilized space that didn’t live up to its potential. With its position perfectly suited for soaking up sunshine and enjoying the outdoors, it was clear this area needed a thoughtful upgrade to transform it into an inviting, functional retreat.
The Transformation
The entire deck was stripped of old, weathered materials, making way for fresh, durable decking that instantly modernized the space. The design was extended to create more room for outdoor activities, while new steps and a platform enhanced accessibility and flow. To complete the look, a relocated balustrade was added, allowing for unobstructed views of the surrounding environment. The entire area was reclad to ensure a polished and cohesive finish that matched the home's renewed charm.
The Result
The newly transformed deck is now a beautiful and versatile outdoor haven. It’s ideal for hosting lively gatherings, enjoying a quiet morning coffee, or simply unwinding in nature. The fresh, modern design seamlessly blends aesthetics and functionality, creating an outdoor area that truly complements the rest of the home. This deck is more than just an extension of the house—it’s a space that brings people together and enhances everyday living.
