The addition of a hall way to connect the addition to the balance of the house had the beneficial effect of adding a breakfast "nook" to our previously renovated kitchen and a third informal "owner's" entrance to the house. One of the important design goals was to preserve my wife's ability to observe and enjoy the park like back yard/garden and the birds therein from the kitchen and the bedroom. Another goal was that the addition not appear to be just a box stuck onto the side of the existing house. The main design criteria was to provide a ground floor living environment so we can maintain our independent living arrangement to the end.
