We needed a variance to be allowed to obtain the proper permits and John Liptak, owner of Oakwood was instrumental in obtaining this on our behalf. Without his personal interest in our renovation, we would not have proceeded with the project. John also gave us the benefit of his years of experience with various suggestions for our room. Our design specialist was wonderful, offering many unique ideas for us to consider, always offering various solutions to meet our budget. We particularly love the windows and paneling in our great room. The quality of the work was top notch. The wood craftsman assigned to our project did an exceptional job on the ceiling beams and the paneling. Dave’s work makes this room so beautiful and unique. The project manager was very knowledgeable and worked on our behalf to make sure that all the little details were dealt with to our satisfaction. Trent was very responsive to our needs and concerns. We can speak to Oakwood’s integrity and professionalism. They wanted the addition to be a room that we would be take pleasure and pride in for many years to come. “We worked with Suzanne Martin of Luxurious Living Studio and Mike Martin of Luxury Renovations/Luxurious Living Studio, from January 2012 to February 2013. As a team, they brought our dreams of a comfortable, liveable basement to life. In fact, when the project was compelete, we felt that our space was so 'luxurious' that we had to refer to it as our 'Level One' - 'basement' just didn't seem to capture the feeling!! Suzanne worked with us from beginning to end, drawing out our creative responses to the design challenges inherent in a below ground project. The space had never been properly insulated so the project took us 'right back to the cement walls' and went forward from there. We were so impressed with Mike's ability to coordinate all of the skilled trades involved in our project. It truly is a balancing act, from which we simply stood back and admired. We realize that we were not their only project; however, they made us feel that they genuinely cared about the success of the project and wanted to be sure we were happy with the results. This sometimes meant going back over the design of some aspect of our project, or insuring a particular trade carried out their part according to the high standards set and maintained by both Mike and Suzanne. We began the whole process in January 2012, when we first met with Suzanne to talk about our hopes for our basement renovation. Construction began in June 2012 and by December 2012, was about 85% to 90% complete. After Christmas, some final millwork and details were complete and we just recently had all of our neighbours in for the Level One Reveal, to show off the fruits of the labour of our 'team': Suzanne and Mike Martin; Luxurious Living Studio and Luxury Renovations. Cindy Charbonneau helped me pick colours and select tile. With her partner, Gilbert Lutes, they planned the layout and those small details that make the difference. Gilbert co-ordinate the work of a couple of trades and completed the construction and tiling himself. We highly recommend them for your next project!”

“Carolyn Munro has extensive 30 years experience in designing and building and it showed on our kitchen renovation. By moving the location of the refrigerator, she made our kitchen look 3 feet wider! She also brought the wall behind our stove out 4 inches and created a beautiful mosaic design behind our slide-in stove that is an outstanding focal point in our kitchen. The kitchen went from gutting it to final delivery in under 4 weeks. She and her crew work very neatly and cleaned up each work day which was important to us since we were living in the house during the renovation. She also got us new stone tiling down the centre of our house and into the powder room and laundry room, hardwood in the dining room and living room, and renovated the powder room. She found us new ceiling light fixtures for the hallway, recommended larger baseboards, and new paint colours. This took only 2 extra weeks. We are thrilled with our gorgeous kitchen and feel like we're living in a new home! We highly recommend Carolyn Munro Design-Build. She and her team are very professional and easy to work with!”

“We hired Gordon Weima Design Builder and his associated trades based on a recommendation from our architect. Mr. Weima served as the project manager. He was responsible to hire the trades, monitor their work and schedule, and oversee the construction budget. The project at hand was to build a modern addition to an existing century old house and modernized the interior of the existing house. The house is located in a heritate district of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. The work was performed pursuant to the specifications as outlined in the plans provided by the architect. By the end of the project, the living space increased by 75 per cent. Mr. Weima and his trades did excellent work. Apart from a situation out of his control, the work was completed on time and within budget. He was able to schedule his trades to ensure that there would be no down time between the various phases of construction. This enabled us to plan for our move back into the house. We very much like the work that he and his trades did. His after service has also been very good. During the construction phase he took the time to point out some deficiencies that normally we would not have observed. Also, during the construction phase, he took the time to walk us through questions/concerns that we had and advised us how he would address the matter. Mr. Weima also kept the construction site clean and ensured that his trades did not encroach on the property of adjacent neighbours. We would welcome the opportunity to work with Mr. Weima in the future should we decide to undertake a similar project in the future. I would invite you to seriously consider Mr. Weima as part of your construction plans, whether it be to build an addition or new house. Mr. Weima will deliver you a quality product which I am certain you will not be deceived.”
