Help to revamp
Comments (14)Generally a sofa faces the TV. Not sure if the room is open at the end where you are standing or if there is a door or wall. You could even use the sofa as a room divider where you are standing and leave a walkway behind and on each side for traffic patterns. I would either mount the a TV on the wall it's on, or find a TV cabinet to enclose it that fits the space. Ballard Designs catalog has a shallow one that doesn't take up a lot of depth. I prefer to hide TVs in cabinets unless that is the only purpose for the space. Mounting them and having them in open shelving makes them dust magnets especially since the electrical charges attract dust. The draperies are pretty heavy and a lot of them. I think the room would look more updated and less claustrophobic with possibly shutters, that could also tie in with the ones hiding the opening on the adjacent wall. If using any fabric at all, I'd use only a valance but the draperies are too overpowering. The fabric on the valance could be repeated in throw pillows on the sofa or an ottoman used as a coffee table....See MorePlease HELP quick.......little living room with big dilemmas!
Comments (13)There is nothing worse than ceiling-mounted lights--harsh shadows, flat lighting. They are strictly for utility. I would put a large-ish, shallow cylindrical shade on them and put nothing more than a 15-watt bulb in them. Use them strictly for lighting your way as you walk through the room. I agree with Vincent; the chair in the corner doesn't fit at all, nor does the one under the A/C unit (put that one with its mate behind the love seat). And the curtains look smooshed. I think the problem with the bookcases is that they are uninteresting. Did you buy books-by-the-yard? What are all those identical books? They are visually uninteresting. I'd get rid of some of them and get some colorful ceramics/glass/photos. The room is absolutely overwhelmed with furniture. It needs one less love seat. Do you really need all of them? Pushing them against the walls/curtains so tightly just visually emphasizes the fact that there is too much furniture. I don't think a mirror above the fireplace will work. When people are sitting down (which is most of the time), all they will see is a reflection of the ceiling--the plain, white ceiling. Get some real art in there with some color....See MoreDesign help

Comments (6)Third vote for getting a professional involved, but i'll still offer my layman's suggestion given that you're just soliciting general ideas at this point. If it was my space, I'd switch the bathroom and the laundry room around, keeping just one of the walls currently enclosing the toilet. Its hard to estimate precise measurements from the drawing, so it may not be feasible, but here's what i mean...See Moreessentials inside
