Need help with fireplace mantle and wall

I put and old mirror I ha laying around up there just to fill the space temporarily but I want a mirror with some Beveling and a cool shape. I also need to find a way to get a pop of color up there. My accent color is golden yellow (you can see it the ceramic on the hearth)

Tv over fireplace. Can this work?
Comments (15)You can put the TV over the fireplace, not the best situation but the way the room lays out it is the only logical place to put it. If you could you should add one additional layer on your mantel that could extend it out another 4" to deflect the radiant coming from the fireplace. I would also mount it on a slimline mounting bracket and have the bottom of the TV no further than 4" above the mantle. Ideally you want the TV to be in as straight a line as possible with your eyes. You don't want to look up too high at the TV, it's like being at a sports bar. Also if you can snake up the power and the HDMI from the cable there is a box they make that has both in one so it makes for a very clean installation....See MoreNeed help with recovering couch
Comments (93)Oh, okay, may need to clarify some more. If you get a new 2 seater in place of the 2 white chairs, fine, but no blue chair at all next to the 'new' 2 seater. Won't be right with a blue chair too. So what ones are you planning to recover?. If getting rid of part of it, not understanding. 2 different styles placed next to each other won't look right. I wouldn't like old blue fabrics next to new fabrics or next to 2 different styles of furniture. Comments (12)Is that a window in center above the hearth? Is rock just a facade? Looks like you have a mixture of furniture styles. Windows look more of the modern style while drapes are traditional. I would say pick one style and go with that. From the windows I'd be leaning modern/ contemporary. If the rock is just stuck on wall take it off. Replace with horizontal wood planks stained same as your door casings. No mantle. If that is a window I would either have a stained glass insert made (again using modern lines) or do a faux stain glass painting treatment to add some visual interest....See MoreI need help in my living area
Comments (12)Hey! Great space! The table is too small for the space, it would immediately help if you had head chairs on either end of the table. It would read larger. If you're interested in a new dining set, try a round dining table, seating at least 6 for size. You need something to define each space, a new furniture arrangement could help. 11 years agolast modified: 11 years agoYes, roman shades would add some personality. I think you will find it more pleasing if you dress the mantle with more appropriately scaled decor items. The mirror doesn't need to take a lead role, but will provide a strong supporting character for some candles, vases, a collection of interesting objects. This scale would look better (see image).

11 years agoI would get a gold framed mirror to pick up on your yellow accent color. A round one would work well, but if you get a rectangular one, please place it vertically. It will make your ceiling appear higher.
The things accessories on your mantel are too small and should be replaced with one to three bulkier, taller items such as what Judith showed you above.

11 years agoI agree with Carolyn -- when I saw the space I thought a round shape mirror would suit the area best and I do like the gold. If your not a fan of gold, I would go with a very dark wood (which would look nice with lighter curtains on each window...I think addressing the window treatment will finish off that space and make the mantle area more finished. As much as I like roman shades, your widows are so low from the ceiling, mounting would be tricky and cut the room. I would just add light/neutral curtains hung right from the top and cover the windows right up to give height.- cozy basement..just make sure you have lot's of good lighting/ lamps or stand up lamps.

11 years agoHere's a picture. As you can see from the side, the blinds are mounted ABOVE the window. You could mount yours all the way at the ceiling to make the window look bigger.
