A photo would be nice, however, a good rule of thumb is to sit up in bed and see where the shade is. Your lamp should be tall enough to cast light if you are reading, but not so tall that you are looking up into the light bulbs. Bottom of shade should be eye level. Most end tables are the same height, and the tops should hit right at the mattress. But if you have something that is taller or shorter then do the sit in bed test.

They are fine size wise and suit your chandelier. You may find that once you add something above the bed they will feel even more balanced and I would consider a mirror to compliment.

I agree with JudyG. And they're too large for the bedside tables.

When you're lying in bed you should not have the bulb shining in your eyes. The lamp size has more to do with the size of the tables than the height of the ceiling.

Your furniture is almost Shaker so something with simpler lines would be better.

The lamps and chandy don't work with the style of the bedroom furniture! What are you planning on that score?

Brilliant, appreciate all the feedback. I'm eclectic kind of a girl, and didn't want everything matchy to style of furniture. Unfortunately, the lamps were not inexpensive, they were USD$235 each which is why I was looking for some feedback. The furniture is by bespoke New Zealand furniture designers Rose and Heather ( they have a store in New York). I definitely need to add something above the bed - that's the next job! Oh, and I also need to make the bed :)

This might compliment your style of furniture...but you have to like it.

I find people always put too small a lamp beside the bed so i think these are great and as for style all i see is the bed and tables so your room could be any style you choose I think they might be a bit traditional next to the chandalier but thats all.

its not that they are too large, its that they *seem* to have to be too close to the bed. BUT if you can get in and out of bed, stretch and yawn in the morning, turn over in the middle of the night, and make the bed, all without catching your hand on the lampshade and sending them tumbling thats fine.

If you think hitting the lamps could be an issue, just move them a bit and add some low accessories (opposite sides to pic below). It's better to have a bit larger lamps and with your ceiling height anything shorter would look skimpy and they don't overwhelm the bedside tables once you balance with something above the bed. Just a thought...if you accessorize your bedding with some soft colors, they will also help to compliment the glass and crystal. You could even change the hardware to a silver.
