need help with tv /bookcase/ storage wall
Comments (7)This is a really awkward space! What about trying to build a unit into the corner which seems to be dead space. This could house the television and other bits like dvr,amp etc. The unit could then extend out towards the door in length and in height either up to the start of the window or up to the start of the blinds. I would suggest drawers for toy storage and books above. In this way you leave the windows clear for light plus it looks like you have a pull down screen so the tv would be out of the way of that. This arrangement would also hide all those wires and cables! Ikea have some good examples of storage which you could adapt or copy, such as Besta which illustrates the extended toy storage. http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/S39927155/...See More1940's NZ kitchen - small, awkward-ish layout.
Comments (121)I would suggest you take out the cabinet that is to the right of the stove and use it elsewhere in the house -- perhaps in the bathroom or dining room with a hutch above it. Then, I would suggest you have someone install a lazy susan cabinet in the corner between the sink counter and the stove, meaning you would move the stove down a bit and have a small cabinet/counter top to the right of the stove. I would suggest you have the cabinets refinished in white and then paint the walls a pastel you like. If you would prefer white walls, then add white-painted crown molding and paint the ceiling a light neutral blue, such as Sherwin Williams Niagara Falls Blue. Then, I would suggest you choose a favorite accent color and use this sparingly in accessories like towels, pot holders, small vases or floral arrangements, and a valence above the triple windows. For a genuine 1940s look, you might have white ceramic square tiles with a rectangular red border installed as a back splash behind and above the stove. If you are replacing counter tops, I would suggest a light color such as white with a beige or light grey vein or striation for some sort of pattern. You might be able to find the same color and design in floor tile OR opt for a wood floor as another poster suggested....See MoreDark paint problem
Comments (5)Matte finishes have more texture that traps dirt and oils. If people entering the room cannot see well enough to be able to find the light switch, you might consider switching the switch to a dimmer that you can leave the light on very low all the time. Or a night light light switch which has a small LED built into it. People should not be dragging their dirty hands across the wall....See MoreLaundry closet - should I hang the ironing board on the door?
Comments (4)i have used the simple double-hook-over-the-door rack for years. the key is how far off the wall the door sits! there is a very slight wear issue on the top edge of the face of the door when you remove it--easy to touch up with paint when moving. a GOOD doorstop is invaluable! your room looks so pretty--anything to hide that board is appropriate, i think:)...See Moretw123456
