Help needed please, how should I design a garden around this.
Comments (10)Wow!!! thank you so much for responding and for the ideas. Cyn222 I love your drawing of the area I think I might try that one in another spot , I wanted to have an area for a memorial seat, your drawing looks lovely and I think it’ll suit a spot just up the path. It’ll look down over the pond. I'm going to have to work out plan as I learnt that lesson once before. lol. I did wonder about a swing, the large tree sits on the top of a bank, it then goes down about 8 meters. It’s reeeeeally steep. I do like the idea of secret gardens and seats along the tracks. I was tossing up about a waterfall over in the far corner. Since the water flows down a stream and then though the overgrown swamp at the bottom. Gez I wish money grew on trees, lol. Actually I call them ponds but they are really dams on a natural water way. Decoenthusiaste, Thank you, you made a very good point about starting with the ponds and working out. I think you are right. It’ll probably take me awhile to tidy up the area. I’ll also have to check what kind of wild flowers are around as I'm sure there must be some. It would look nice with a bit of colour, I never thought of that. The ground down at the bottom is swampy like wet lands. I also wondered about board walks through it. We are building soon on the land, so this will be the back yard. There is also lot of native bush. Here’s a photo from the side of the pond. I’ll have to get it cleaned up somehow and figure out the best way to improve the water quality. If I start with that 1st, and then do the memorial garden I can then work from there. Lol I’m keen on getting the ashes out of the cupboard. Thanks, you both have given me direction, I appreciate it....See More'Need help with this stairwell!'
Comments (2)When you say "Do we paint the paneling as well as the other side - the rails etc." what exactly do you mean by 'the other side"? Are you referring to the underside of the stairwell? If so, I would leave that element. If you paint the panelling just be sure to give it a sanding before doing anything. I just had the wood trim in my place painted (just baseboards, not panelling like this) and I was told that it didn't need to be sanded first. Boy, do I regret it - there are spots that are flaking off already, and it was a good quality paint and primer used. In your case, I would paint the panelling but not the banister and stair rails unless you are also planing on painting all of the wood trim upstairs. Doing the panelling will leave you with the lighter, fresher look, while still looking classic with the wood stair rails. Also, it looks like you have the wood panelling in the hallway/entry way leading to the stairs - I think you need to have a consistent treatment for both areas so would paint this as well....See MoreHow to grow more vegies when you only have a balcony
Comments (5)Park in on street parking and use your designated parking spot for container veggies. If the other dwellers won't poach them. Contact a local garden club to pair up with an older gardener who may have to be cutting back her pursuits but isn't ready to give up gardening all together. That's win/win. Maybe a local food bank is trying to get a gardener's donation initiative off the ground and needs help convincing local gardeners to ''plant an extra row'' for them. Or Habitat For Humanity might be interested in doing edible landscaping for some of their homes and people who have never gardened before and who might need help. Lots of ways to have green fingers if you really want. If none of those initiatives exist in your community, then initiate them yourself!...See MoreHow do I remove this off my floor!
Comments (9)Thanks everyone for the warnings. Honestly I had not thought that could be possible so just in case I'll gear up with a mask to avoid inhaling any of it. I will still need to remove it, but from what I read the problem with asbestos is if you sand it and make it into breathable particles, so ripping it out should be ok. I've looked up in youtubr and there seems to be a tool called mastic remover that you can put on your floor sander and it would scratch the surface removing any of that stuff....See Moreettel14
