Yes it is a bit further where we have the kitchen now from the garage - its hard to tell from these images of course(!) but we are on a hill site that has all front yard for entertaining and amazing view, so we wanted all of the areas possible to face out/open onto this. The back side is looking mostly at retaining wall so it would be quite dark if we put the kitchen on that end. The bedroom is the 4th one and as it is only my husband and I, it won't be used that often so we prioritized having the living areas bright and in the best spots over the guest bedroom.

Ozbern: we had a similar dilemma, lovely backyard and then they started tearing down bungalows and building four story townhouses all around us. I built a single depth pergola along the back property line, the beauty of this is not only the privacy, but it brings the scale of the yard down to make it feel more intimate when we are outside. We also added a 10' x 10' (little over three meters) pergola right up against the house where we had a wall of windows. Will try to find that photo too. We have coral vine now growing in it. Dies in winter, comes back in spring. You can always do more contemporary details if this is too casual.

I have your setup #1 and it works well, we do drip a bit of water on the floor between sink and dishwasher, but you learn not to!! Also it gives a full clear bench on the peninsular for eating, setting out, or working or whatever. Your kitchen is slightly narrower, from memory ours is 1.6M not 1.3 as you have yours, Our peninsular has a circular end which has actually proved very beneficial for sitting round, and seats up to 5, meaning you are not sitting in a long line, but facing each other round the end, - I love it, it is a real gathering point. The outer side of the peninsular curves in to the centre, then flows out to make the circular ending, so its not protruding into the kitchen but into the other side, sorry I don't think I can add a sketch to this.

My viewpoint is that I'd sooner have the fridge at the 'other' ( right hand end ) of the kitchen , away from a window , and have it 'along' the wall , but that depends on space , doorways , etc . Having said that , if the window already stops where it does , it's a reasonably clever use of what would otherwise be an underutilised area . In the above pic , I assume there is a door just out of sight , beside the fridge ? If there isn't , I would have been inclined to have the cooktop there , instead of the fridge , but thats just me .
