Perhaps a colored door if you paint the home grey. Maybe Red? You could simulate a color change on door by hanging something over the door that is the color like a tablecloth or piece of fabric. If you search houzz for" grey homes", you can see what others have done. My home is painted Cape Cod Grey with white trim and it has been very easy to live with for years. I have a dark grey roof.

The setting is quite tropical, so a darker scheme with white trims has such a tropical holiday feel. You may consider using a concrete face brick for the lower section. This will be modern, and eliminate the need for painting, while still creating contrast with the upper level. We currently have clay tiles in a teracotta colour which are original from 1940s. We are replacing our roof with a metal tile roof and can't decide on a colour. We are looking at either a teracotta colour or ebony/dark grey. We are in a bushy area in New Zealand. We are looking at leaving the window trims and the gable white but would look at painting the pop up which is currently a dark red stain to match the new roof. Any suggestions welcome! Thanks.

Hi Joanna, There is a lot of different options to make this work for you. The landscaper is correct that you can have pavers under the spa. Typically in this situation we would pour a reinforced concrete pad to create the foundation and then wet lay the desired paver over the top. As long as the pavers have a solid base underneath them there shouldn't be any issues. Removing the timber retaining will definitely open up more space although correctly planting this could also create a great nestled in area and make it a great feature. As far as choosing the right paver for the space it probably has more to do with the house and the other areas. One option is getting a paver that contrasts with the cladding on your house and is similar to your joinery / roof colour.
