Oh I have not even touched the surface of fabrics that are available and beautiful. But, best to qualify further if you are recovering or buying new chairs before we get too excited or caught up in the beauty of the products. I love fabrics and the chemistry and technology that goes into modern day fabrics would astound most people. I'm not even talking about the residential fabrics like the Robert Allen collection I showed you. I'm talking about the fabrics for the hospitality and medical care industry. Now if you are interested in MODERN look fabrics I would send you to Maharam to look at their 20th Century Modern collection. Some of those are the real deal by Eames and Girard. Anyway, when you get further along in your plans then I can give better input.

For your planting advice, I suggest you call Merrifield Garden Center to see if they will come out your way. They currently have wonderful garden centers in Merrifield and Fairfax (both in Fairfax County) and a new one in Gainesville, but they may come further south to wherever you reside. (www.MerrifieldGardenCenter.com) Even if they don't send designers to your area, they are worth a trip to see their huge selection for a day of pleasure and inspiration, or to pick up some plants. Love your style and you've got some beautiful furniture there! A deep aubergine purple velvet on your wingbacks would look stunning. I'd tend to stick to purples in this area to keep it classy. Also, a dark purple would be more practical with kids than a cream. I'd keep the chairs you've got, unless they are really wobbly. Get someone to check them out and give you a quote for repairs and then you'll have a price to work against to see if you can get cheaper. OnePlan is right on the style and yet I don't think they look out of place in the room. I also like the idea of bench seats or if you wanted something really different, you could get a church pew?! I don't think the room has too much dark furniture as it is a large light area. Keep us posted with pics/samples of possible fabrics you find. Also, check out fabric outlet places.

Thank you for your comments. I really appreciate your help. I think we are on the same track. The rugs I have brought home have fought with the terracotta colour plus the busyness of the small tiles. I did come across this picture on Houzz, which I think looks good. What do you think? It would need some of that burnt orange from the chair upholstery as well as the aubergine to tie in but I liked the dark border line, it matched with the grout.
