I googled custom wardrobes and a large list of flat pack options came up. I also saw that Fantastic Furniture do them which would be a budget option. You could consider moving the current wardrobe doors forward or cut down the Pax units.

Thanks for that, the problem we found with the taller items from these flat-pack sites was their depth was over 55cm which won't fit our space unfortunately. Some of their small size items are under 50cm but won't be ideal solution for our space from a storage perspective.

I presume what caused the timber to rot has been fixed?

Have you looked at Ikea Jonaxel, website says 51cm depth, or Elfa which comes in a few different depths and with a warranty?

It has indeed macyjean, we've had to do a full gut of the unit across the board, with this being the last item.

I did consider the narrower Pax squirrel30, the clothing rail was the main draw back from my perspective but good to hear there is an alternative with that option. Our other consideration has been the Bunnings Flexi storage however the reviews on the quality hasn't been great. Good to note on the hanging rails, i found that with the rest of the Pax was still a little slim on the storage we're after unfortunately.

I had the same dilemma with Ikea great design but depth was silly I went with Fantastic Furniture  Eden range at 45cm or 48cm depth it was perfect and quality was great also

Had a similar problem and opted for the Bunnings solution. Was not super cheap, but once it was in and wall anchored it was worth it. It looks like a proper built in at a fraction of the cost. Definitely worth the investment.

I have used the 58cmx 236cm, plus a corner unit Ikea Pax in my recent apartment reno (not built in cabinetry, as standalone units), and previously had the Flexi Wire/Wall solution in a rental property I was in within a built in.

Given the situation you're in where you can't change the depth, I would go the Flexi Wire/Wall System. The 36cm is not deep enough to hang clothing and the other solutions (e.g. Elvari) are potentially okay, but I feel are more expensive (I haven't costed them out though from a configuration stand point though, to be fair)? I've also tried to get additional pieces for my Pax recently and it's so difficult at the moment...

I'm pretty fussy with my wardrobes and I really liked how configurable the Flexi was. As an example, you could have different length rails at different heights for clothing (e.g. top rail 100cm for shirts to dresses, underneath it 50cm rail for shorts/skirts under shirts), so I feel you can fit more into it. You don't have that option with the Pax and are limited by set 50cm/75cm/100cm widths for segments of the wardrobe. I also didn't have any issues with the quality of the Flexi and I changed it around a lot, getting the right combo (and because I got bored).

I'm about to do another apartment reno, and will be putting the Flexi range inside the built-ins there. Visually my concern if I hadn't used it before would be that the Flexi range looks a little cheaper than Pax, but once you have clothing and accessories in it you don't really notice. The wire shelves also don't get as dusty, which was a plus.

It depends on what you're doing with the unit long term, but as a renter I also really liked how the Flexi system was configurable for my needs - whereas I wouldn't want a renter changing my Pax around!

How did you end up going? We are mid-reno and have just had a realisation of the same thing. Builders have done quite thick framing and now we find ourselves with a 51 cm depth!!? Very frustrating they didn't mention the standard depth for so many of the DIY cabinetry is 58 cm. I would love to hear what solution you ended up going with.
