Planting a small vertical slope to stop erosion onto house path
Comments (5)I would consider a small retaining wall perhaps 2-3 planks high this will provide support to the bank but also allow the pathway to remain clear and formal. The ferns seem to be doing well but could do with a tidy up. I would also prune the tree so it allows a bit more light into the section to help prevent dampness, you also want to take it away from the house, without destroying it's natural shape. As ferns seem to naturally want to grow there, you could continue that theme. Perhaps some other shade / cooler temperature type plants with some flowers could be a good addition. I am not sure which plants can tolerate the cold Dunedin winters, so you best contact is your local garden centre. You want plants that are lush all year round. Also have a look at other plants growing in the neighbourhood as that will give you a good idea of what does and doesn't do well in your climate. Good Luck....See MoreRustic Vanity where to buy in New Zealand
Comments (3)I didn't like any of the stock standard vanities I saw being sold. By chance I happened to see a second hand vanity being sold on FB so I brought it ( see photo). I liked its shape and solid profile but didn't like its colour. I took it to a auto car spray painter and had them spray paint it in Benjamin Moore Kendall Charcoal (a greige grey). They did an awesome paint job with a mirror like finish. I brought a piece of primestone (marble look) for the top, two small towel rails to be fixed in the underside of the vanity that is sticking out so I can hang hand towels on either side. I brought a new tap for it (but kept the vessel basin). I ordered in some new legs for it online because I didn't like the legs on it (see below). Its currently at a joiners getting put together. I've actually enjoyed the process of pulling it all together. Sure by the time it has been put together I probably would have spent the same amount that it would have cost me to do a custom vanity however I think there is something to be said for re-using something a second time round rather than buying into consumerism that abounds us. All up I've spent $1,074 NZD for the vanity, the spray paint job, new legs from www.prettypegs.com, the new towel rails from Reece Plumbing & buying a new Elementi tap. That doesn't include the joiners costs - yet. I needed storage in my vanity. This one fit the bill for me. Good luck with what you choose to do! I am doing a bathroom remodel as well and enjoying it....See MoreBefore and After Back Deck in New Zealand
Comments (0)For this project, the clients were interested in creating an open, light and airy space catered for family living. As you can see, the house is a large proportioned villa with an extensive modern extension on the back which opens out and connects to the outdoor living areas, lush back garden and separate studio. The outdoor area has a generous deck that caters for outdoor entertaining with a dining and seating area, and bbq where the whole family can relax. Would love to know what everyone's feeling of the transformation are. Before After...See MoreLook at this Before & After of a Master Bedroom in New Zealand
Comments (0)For this before and after, these clients were interested in maintaining the integrity and character of the home but incorporating modern and traditional finishes. The house featured pressed ceilings in the bedroom, which gave the room a grand appeal. This feature was retained as it was beautiful and kept the character but paired it with a more contemporary bed to modernise the space, and changed the spatial layout. We layered the bed with different colours, textures and patterns to create more interest. The light fitting was replaced with a modern twist on a chandelier.
