Rugs are hard to pick. I like what you’ve chosen but it is on the safe side. Would you consider a washed vintage-look with a bit more pattern. I’ve stayed neutral in the inspiration pics attached but you could have a bit more colour.

Thanks why I wanted something plain (and natural)- plus I'm into a minimilst and timeless look. So you dont think the black in the Subi rug will clash with my brown (mocka) couch? Do you think black is too dark for my space? Thanks once again

I swap out rugs according to the season. This is my summer jute rug. It adds texture, ties in to the rock wall behind it and the warm natural tone works with the rust and cream cushions. At some point the grey couch will go for a warmer tone but I think it works pretty well together. The other rug is a distressed silvery with muted patterns in rust and blue. This works well with the couch and cushions and I lean blue artwork or ceramics on the shelf to tie in with it. Mixing up the rugs & decor keeps me from getting bored and helps mark the change in seasons ( also prompts a spring clean!)

I do love the rug you have chosen, if you want to get a bit more adventurous try a patterned rug, or go lighter as seasons change as suggested.

I would also add some gorgeous black linen cushions for your beautiful sofa and a large potted plant along with your rug.. fabulous

Hi Andrew, black and rust/mocha/terracotta go well together but I think up you’re right to consider if the rug would be too dark. Most floor rug retailers though, including online sellers, have a pretty decent and relatively easy, return policy. So I’d suggest trying the rug in situ, and seeing for yourself. We’ve been searching for the ‘right’ rug for our living room for ages, so I empathise, it’s a bugger of a job. Good luck

I don't have anything to offer except empathy! We just bought a new lounge and now need a new rug and it is very overwhelming!

I would select a lighter rug to contrast against the dark furniture and floor tones. You could look at wool rugs or a light coloured jute rug for texture without pattern, which can become quickly outdated.
