Neither is better than the other, they will both do the job and look good. However, aluminium plantation shutters are usually installed on the exterior of home, not interior.
Yes aluminium is an option in Australia. I had my outside area fitted with aluminium shutters. And my interior with PVC composite. Both do the job and look good. I would not bother with aluminium inside, there is no need for that material inside a home. The price of PVC and aluminium are comparable and the quality is the same. It’s the warranty and the feel and look that is slightly different. I chose PVC for inside because it is not as “cold” in appearance. Timber shutters are also available but more expensive.
