I agree with you the pillars are unfortunate. The replacement tiles will stand out no matter how close they come to matching so you're better off making sure they are clearly different so the gray one is better. Putting busy mosaic tiles could look nice but will interrupt the flow between rooms which I'm guessing is your problem with the columns in the first place. You will need to create a dextrous solution to tying into the 2x4 wall on the left side but I think it can be done tastefully- maybe beveling it back once you get past he end of that wall.

If I were going to do it again I would have pressed for someone with expertise to cut them. You can see in the image that the facing is not made of the stone peak, because too much was broken during the cutting to make the mitered edge. Thanks for responding. We're in Auckland, New Zealand and close to the sea. Outdoor living is quite important but it does get chilly in winter so it's a balance. There are three adults and two young children in the household (one of the adults is an Au Pair who likes to spend time in her own room in the evenings). The kids will watch their cartoons generally in the morning and a bit before dinner. Then in the evening my husband and I will relax and watch TV. Right now the kids' toys are in the family room downstairs. We are foodies and like cooking. Generally when guests come over we all hang out in our small kitchen at the moment. The dining table we use for every meal time. We also like the idea of being able to get to the deck from the kitchen, rather than having to carry food in summer through the lounge/dining. The entry way is that big in order to reduce on the structural work but also in order to ensure that the door to the staircase is not in the lounge.

Hi Kim, I would suggest getting it custom built to the space. We did this with our single sink vanity as we needed a long, narrow vanity and it looks amazing. Ask your local joiner for a quote.
