Granite is less porous than other stones such as marble and limestone, so is more forgiving to abuse than they are. But we tend to use quartz (man-made stone) on most of our projects as it's very easy to maintain and still has the look and feel of natural stone.
Thanks for your reply, I've had my head turned with a Quartzite that is just too expensive for me so looking at alternatives with veining and hence being interested in this. Just don't know if I want the level of care/consideration for a natural stone but quartz doesn't offer the look I'm after. Argh 1st world problems ....
