What to do with this wall?

We have 2 adjoining rooms (one currently used as a study/office and the other as our toddler's bedroom). Both sides of this wall are clad in this diagonal panelling. However, with a large and poorly aligned join right down the middle of the room. Wondering what suggestions you have for improving the aesthetics of this (without totally rebuilding the wall).

Is there a plaster wall behind the timber veneers?
You could mail the sheets back into place seal joint with a flexible filler and paint white

No there's no plaster behind - they seem to be attached directly onto the frame behind. Unfortunately, even if able to nail it in flush, the diagonal lines don't match up !

Paint your house and ceiling first. You are probably asking for trouble if you put the floors down only to paint over the top of them. If you can, remove the tiles in the kitchen and paint just behind the line of the splashback too. Once painting is done replace kitchen benchtop then splashback. I would call the bathroom its own job and do it individually, unless you only need to paint the ceiling and if a tiler doesn't need to be brought in for anything else in the house? A lot of bathrooms now are getting tiled from floor to the ceiling if this is the case, paint the ceiling first, then tile. If walls need to be painted, it wouldn't really matter if you did them first or last, though if you did it first expect to do some touch-ups. I guess if you really wanted, you could do the first coat before tiles then second after... I don't exactly like stopping and starting painting, so I would do the walls (if they needed to be done) in one hit, after its been tiled. Well that's the order in which I would do everything... Really, for what you're asking, the painting could be done at anytime, but to make life easy on yourself, I would definitely recommend doing it before the floor.

I think you are wasting money . I'd leave the columns , do a couple of bi-fold aluminium doors , do a nice leather corner suite , and artwork , a Tv , make it more livable . I'd do a glass balustrade on the small stairs , 3 or 4 creeper type potplants and a couple of 'objects d'art' along the solid balustrade . Do you have another dining room ? If yes , make part of this an office/study ; if no , then a nice table and chairs . Right now , it looks unloved -- make it easier to fall in love with it , and you will !

I would install a strip of the same stain coloured timber vertically on that join. Then centre your picture board on left side. Or you could install the vertical timber board and paint the whole wall white. Installing the vertical board over the join takes your eye away from the miss match of timber.

Plasterboard is one of the cheapest building materials. If the frame is solid it would be a diy job to pull off the panelling. If you’re at all handy you can hang the new plasterboard and then get a professional in to finish it off (if you’re not confident).

Tricking the eye by adding a floor to ceiling shelf, the shelves don’t need to go up as high as ceiling, put the narrow shelf over join and add precious items, books etc, could be an easy and cheaper answer than removing battens or redoing wall.

You could also paint the timber white, black or another contrasting colour and add natural vertical timber battens
