styling help! lounge room

Hi all,

Desperately after some styling ideas for our revamp of our very sad lounge room 😔

Specifically after thoughts on:

new tv cabinet, style and wood colour?
rug colour (the baby mat will go)
I’d love one side table that’s quite minimal, even one that can sit flush over the couch perhaps as we won’t have a lot of room left when the new couch arrives.

We are wishing on a new couch which is attached in the photos. Fabric colour will be a very light grey with texture and the wood shelves are smoked oak.

Thank you so much. So hopeless with all this stuff and find it impossible to decide!

Is it too late to change the order away from a chaise? I like the contrast and colour of the coffee table in your inspiration pic - that for a TV unit and a similar rug would lift your room. It may be the pic but your white paint looks quite yellow - this may not work with the browns in your couch.

Thanks for the advice, have decided to ditch the brown and go for something lighter and brighter...maybe next month I will look at replacing the pathetic prints on the walls and the grubby coffee table...

Thanks Carole, yes we are very keen to knock out that wall - I have to be restrained from bringing the sledgehammer inside until we get a proper load-bearing beam organised! Once thats done and the books are off the floor and on the wall opposite we will have to think of rearranging this space - I still like it split up by a couch, but perhaps we could put a larger dining table in the new space.

I would place the sofa facing the fireplace either with access to what's behind the draperies or not, and put the tv where the chair is--roughly. On the far end I'd arrange a small conversation/reading/activity area. IE:2 chairs, a table and a lamp or a small activity table with a hanging lamp. Of course, seeing the scale of your new furniture, once you receive it will help. I just hope you have selected comfortable furniture in a smaller scale than what you have.

I really don't see an issue with the rooflines. Looks like the angles are fairly similar and the clean lines of both structures should be easy to coordinate, especially in your open, rural setting. Since you've found a stunning deal, I would say, go for it! I definitely would want to find an architect ASAP and by all means, before you pour the slab, make sure you have a plan to coordinate.

I love King furniture and the Jasper is beautiful, add a large rug, try look for a tv unit that will compliment the timber of the couch, a floor lamp will give a beautiful ambiance and add style the fireplace with artwork or mirrors, an arch mirror would look great, wait until you get your couch then look for a table to fit the room.

You could distract the eye from the air con with gorgeous pebble mirrors above mantle, linen cushions and throw , great artwork for above couch and large plants to bring the outside in.. could look beautiful.

Thankyou so much Julie! I was actually planning on putting an arch mirror on the mantle so great to hear that’s a recommendation!

What colour wood tv unit do you think would compliment the grey fabric and dark oak shelves of the couch? Struggling to work that one out as well as not clashing with the floor boards

You could go with a darker tv unit, Interior secret, Temple and Webster have some really nice pieces. These will blend with the timber in the Jasper.

In your room I would not have a chaise lounge. It dictates the position of your whole room furniture. Is the chaise able to be bought as a separate piece, so you can have as an ottoman, or situated on the left or right of lounge. The lounge is really only a two seater and a lying part. Is this your only lounge room? Where is the lounge going to be positioned in this room?

The lounge can be separated 😊 yes it’s our only lounge room. It will be against the wall to the left facing the windows

But where will the chaise be. Right in front of the electric fire….maybe dangerous, or in the walk way to your dining and stairs? What are the measurements of the new Jasper lounge? Usually a lounge is about 850 deep, but what is the amount of space the chaise will take up. From your other posts, the room is only 3.7m wide x 5m long.

I have a chaise. I fell for the look. They look great in pics but in reality they’re impractical unless in a larger open plan area. They are difficult to place and difficult to style around.
