Need Help on Exterior Facade Update

Hi Guys,

Any help would be appreciated.

I've had some exterior renders made up of my home to help me update my facade with ideas I thought would look great but havent been wowed yet. Hoping someone on here could help by sharing some ideas or thoughts and point me in the right direction

Here is what the current external facade looks like:

Not sure what colour the bricks are but I think they need to be changed up.

The current colour scheme is:

Dulux Lexicon for the white render

Dulux Monument for the fence/window frames

Dulux Night Sky for the front door/garage door

Below is what I had in mind:

Render the bricks in Dulux lexicon with the vertical blade rendered and painted in night sky.

I think it updates the facade quite a bit but not the wow factor I was expecting.

Keen to hear any suggestions.

I love the proposed updates, maybe concentrate on adding something Wow to your landscaping to compliment your beautiful home, stark minimal planting could look fabulous.

Thank you so much for your comment after all this time. The colour you have suggested brightens the front door area beautifully and if the two red pots were painted in a tone to match, we think it would look great. Not sure if you can get Crestview doors in New Zealand but there must be something similar. We like the idea of going away from another cedar door - mainly because it would stand out too much while it was weathering. I don't know whether we would have been that brave but the tangerine works so well with the jade green of the joinery. I have re-laid all the stones and put a new wider front step in. The timber colour will soften down in time. I put a big pot in the garden to draw visitors to the front door and have added some colourful bromeliads to the garden alongside the house to make the area a bit more cheerful. We can't make a decision about what to do with a larger 'overhang' to protect the front porch yet - it is a project in progress. Thanks again for your post.

If you use masonry paint, we could head in a warm greige direction for all of it - not so yellow . .. something that can give you a bit more contrast against the white windows and trim - even 40 does a lot for us . . . what about a blue green gray? You will get a coastal / mod vibe and it will relate to the farmhouse look .. .above bm silver mink http://www.benjaminmoore.com/en-us/paint-color/silvermink and below . . . gilbraltar cliffs . . http://www.benjaminmoore.com/en-us/paint-color/gibraltarcliffs Shingle look siding on the side dormers would be neat to get that cottage mod. . . you can stick with yellow but I don't think it complements the roof tone. With the blue-green grays, the white windows and trim will really pop beautifully. . . I agree that you should take down the trellis but be aware that you'll probably need to extend your decking rail along that side in order to enclose the deck for building code purposes. If that's more of an expense than you're willing to incur right now, consider at least taking it down to the same height as the rest of your deck and putting a top railing across it. You could then put in some foundation plantings that would climb up and cover the fact that it runs in a different direction than the front of your deck. If I'm looking at it correctly, your gate gives you access to your front door from your drive way. Am I right? In that case, I think your gate should stay where it is. I agree with flair lighting that a new light is in order over your entry. If you like the idea of a motion light, they make decorative outdoor fixtures with motion lights built in. Your fence would definitely look nice painted a lighter color. Right now, as flair said, it's a bit unwelcoming. If you're painting your metal roof, take your house and trim colors from there to coordinate. You could definitely paint your scalloped trim a different color than the house. Matching it to whatever trim color you choose would look great. Do you use the steps from your deck to access your yard? If not, I would consider removing them and closing in that portion of the deck as well. If you do use them, I would add a hand rail for safety purposes. I’d leave the house as is and spend the money on landscaping as per Julie’s ideas above. An investment in a striking mature tree and huge pot. And supporting plantings, would add more to the appeal than paint/render.

I agree with Julie. The current grey is a bit stern for me. And u lack planting. Think of the front garden as a room

I'm not a huge fan of anything too stark white , and I like wood . Okay , I like red doors and a Wow factor too .

So I wonder whether the existing bricks you render in a charcoal , and do the entrance door in red , and the garage door in timber ?

I'm here in New Zealand , and just looked at local houses for sale -- here are a couple that I quite like , neither are 100% to my liking , but maybe give you some inspiration ?

A bit too white for my liking , the windows are nice and a good variety ( presumably difficult for you to replicate , as your place is already built ) and has the timber garage door . I quite like the big bolts on the glass terrace screen too .

The one below has some black features , but uses the timber ( and the black ) to 'break' the starkness . The timber has been used so the house doesn't look as wide as it is -- almost like its an afterthought , which I doubt it is .

This is the other side of the same place ( the one just above ) -- they've mixed up the timber and black a bit more , so it all ties in .
