Maybe a bifold sliding door

my suggestion may be more work and expense than you want but a cavity sliding door could be fitted inside the wall behind the bedroom door and a small section of new plasterboard installed above the new doorway with architrave all around and would match the ens door

Well that is a dilemma. The idea Kate posted needs tracks installed, which you don’t have any room for. The idea the oklouise posted, has the problem of, there is no room behind the bedroom door, as it butts right to wall. also the electrical is in that wall.

The solution I would look at is installing an actual door frame the same as the other door, assuming ensuite. Install a hinged door which swings into WIR, hinges on the right of frame.

The door frame would reduce width of access. Which is another problem…..Are your walls brick or timber studs? You could expand the WIR entrance quite easily if timber studs. That would give enough room for a decent door and entrance. From photos it appears you have about 200mm before light switch on WIR side.

What is the door size for the other door on that wall?

my suggestion is to replace the wall behind the bedroom door with a cavity slider which means the door is inside the wall cavity and slides over to conceal the opening into the wiw...another alternative is to replace the ens door with a cavity slider and then install another door between ens and wiw but easiest and cheapest option would be to install a curtain over the opening hung from door height

Realistically how often would you close the door in use in every day life?

This is an American product but you could have one made here, you would be best to hinge on the RH side away from the bedroom door. It wouldn't need to be a full height door, it could be left open above or filled in.

I have virtually the same setup and both the WIR and ensuite have cavity sliders. In the 15 years I have lived in the house, I could count on one hand the number of times I have closed the door to the robe. I'm not naturally tidy however I organised the back wall that can be seen so that it was easily kept tidy (all hanging with big baskets on the top shelf) and hid my messy stacks etc on the lefthand wall that couldn't be seen from the bedroom by a casual visitor. It just seems that the room was designed to be open.

In a previous house I got a builder to change our ensuite and wiw doors to cavity sliders. But you'd have to get an electrician to reposition the light. It was great for our ensuite because it gave us a space for towel rails. Like rocksfam, I rarely closed the wiw door, but at least the door didn't occupy wall space when it was open. We remodelled our very open ensuite and wiw in our current house, closing it in but we didn't bother adding adding a door to the wiw. I think it would look a lot better if you just filled in the top of the wiw doorway so it was level with the other doors. If you were looking at installing a door yourself, you would be capable of that work.

I suggest making a curtain instead of a door. The color is as close as possible to the color of the walls. The fabric is matte, quite dense, giving a beautiful soft drape. Attach the curtain inside the opening to the ceiling cornice.

Of course, the end of the curtain rod will be slightly visible above the curtain, so if this is a problem for you, you can attach a small, fairly flat strip on the bedroom side, as I have drawn in your photo. Also paint the bar as much as possible in the color of the walls or even cover it with the same fabric as the curtain (perhaps it is better to sew a curtain rather than buy a ready-made one)

Let me clarify that it is better to make the curtain in two parts for easy passage. It’s probably even worth sewing weights into the bottom edge, and the gathering should be thick, also be guided by what I drew. If, of course, you like my idea and decide to implement it)

What about a folding concertina door, could solve the problem.

With your bedroom door handles you could change latch to a ball catch and have a flush handle

Your doorway opening at 670 is very narrow and being so close to the bedroom door dosen't allow for too much in the way of external fittings, plus wanting to be able to do it yourself.

If you were having the WIR space refitted you could have an internal sliding door and push the light switch through the wall into the bedroom.. Looking at the photos there could be some double hanging and an extra top shelf. added.

Possible ideas would be to use 18 MDF board for the first photo, this would be painted as the wall colour.

Then the second photo using "Japanese Noren" curtains which can be at whatever length you want.

I have a similar situation when laying in bed looking into both the WIR and ensuite unless I close the doors which I always do.

Hello there, I am wondering if you have solved this problem or if you are still thinking about it. I have the suggestion of bringing the opening height down to match the ensuite and adding a barn door but if that doesn't fit the cavity slider might be the only other option. Yes you would have to make a huge mess to remove the brick walls and add a cavity and timber frame, replace the plaster and of course fix the electrics too.. Very messy but I think it would be worth it as to close it off would be my preference too! Lets hear how you got along with this... can we see the it finished yet? Cheers Margot
