Inspire me with your all black rooms

No, I don't mean posters of New Zealand's rugby team... I mean black walls and ceilings, maybe floors too.
We're intending to go dark mode in our foyer and formal lounge/dining room to give it that moody, Gothic gin den feel. We'll be installing redilight skylights to supplement the natural light (rooms are east facing and shaded by a verandah, so already on the dark side, but have big full height windows) and will also use sconce, downlights and lamps (and mirrors) to toss some light around. The floors are oak (foyer) and light coloured carpet (lounge/dining).
We are set on this idea so don't want to be talked out of it, BUT I would love to hear from people who've gone dark.
What do you wish you'd done? Any traps or tricks I should consider?
And please share pics if you have them!
Thank you.
