Curtains? Blinds?

Looking for inspiration for window covering. The window is approx 190 x 150. It will have a lounge underneath it.
I’m undecided about curtains or blinds. And what type.
The room faces west but has a large tree outside so doesn’t get blazing sun. There is a TV is on the opposite wall.
Any suggestions gratefully appreciated.

What wonderful windows they are. Do you need window coverings for privacy? It would be a shame to cover the windows in blinds. I would recommend light sheer curtains if you don’t need full blockout. If you require full blockout then definitely curtains not blinds. Full length, from where current hangers are, then to the floor. Not putting your sofa against the wall, step it out a bit, so you can pull the curtains when required.

Agree with dreamer. I'd only put window coverings if you need them for privacy/sunblock. When not in use, you need to be able to pull them completely clear of the window and its frame. I think a blind could still work as long as it is mounted above the window frame. (I have no window coverings in my living room.)

I would suggest you take out the cabinet that is to the right of the stove and use it elsewhere in the house -- perhaps in the bathroom or dining room with a hutch above it. Then, I would suggest you have someone install a lazy susan cabinet in the corner between the sink counter and the stove, meaning you would move the stove down a bit and have a small cabinet/counter top to the right of the stove. I would suggest you have the cabinets refinished in white and then paint the walls a pastel you like. If you would prefer white walls, then add white-painted crown molding and paint the ceiling a light neutral blue, such as Sherwin Williams Niagara Falls Blue. Then, I would suggest you choose a favorite accent color and use this sparingly in accessories like towels, pot holders, small vases or floral arrangements, and a valence above the triple windows. For a genuine 1940s look, you might have white ceramic square tiles with a rectangular red border installed as a back splash behind and above the stove. If you are replacing counter tops, I would suggest a light color such as white with a beige or light grey vein or striation for some sort of pattern. You might be able to find the same color and design in floor tile OR opt for a wood floor as another poster suggested.

Personally I think the curtain colour is fine, but your header tape needs attention and for me I'd have them taken up so they hang to the floor rather than on the floor. If your hubby is handy maybe get him to make u a box over the curtain header & stain/paint it to match your furniture. Or put up a pole in matching wood.

There are some great comment here, but my take on this would be if you are going custom to take your time and look around. Many designers offer different takes on each person's preference. The colours you have are good but I'd personally would opt for a more warmer cream, with a self print pattern. I would also suggest pinch pleated curtains and not pencil pleat as you have currently, pinch pleated curtains will give you uniformed pleats from top to bottom. In addition to this I would suggest you use blackout linen to prevent light to enter the room, and possibly interlining so that you retain some thermal properties in your fixtures. Having custom made curtains are a lifetime choice for most customers, take your time and don't settle for the first company you come across. The space above your bed i would possibly add a sheer fabric roman blind which is slightly see through but enough to give you privacy if you bedroom is situated on the ground floor. You can also get the a roman blind to match your new curtains if you'd like a more repetitive theme in your bedroom. I would suggest if you do opt for a roman blind, and you are looking for a good qualities add blackout linen. Like your house! I think the verticals in the window on the left are vertical blinds - get rid of these - they are very dating. Paint the horizontal safety bars to match your other window frames. I think the house just lacks privacy - and this then necessitates curtains and blinds at all the windows, giving the house a closed off look. I would get rid of all the very solid and 60s era conifer shrubs and replace with softer planting and one or two taller trees. Perhaps a fence or hedge to provide privacy so those windows could be opened up to the sun and garden. Or you could plant a row of spaced standard trees (fluffy heads on trimmed trunks) (eg robinia, or a weeping standard poplar or willow) you'd only need about 5 along the street frontage, creeper round that letterbox, a few pretty plants next the house. Then open the blinds and curtains. You could add a screened courtyard outside the glazed area on the left. Talk to your local garden shop for ideas. I cant tell whether the walls are brown brick or brown Summerhill stone (thats those rough concrete bricks, also very 60s). My house is Summerhill stone and has been painted cream - looks fine and certainly removes the 60s look. Hope this gives you some ideas - good luck with your new house.

I just feel blinds don’t fit the aesthetic of the window frames and beautiful glass. I think free flowing fabric would be better.

What functionality do you need out of the window covering? I would have a Roman blind in the wall colour. It’s hard to judge without seeing the whole room and what other horizontal lines there are but I’d facemount the blind above the window about 20cm above and have the width match the widest part of the sill.

I too agree with dreamer that blinds would not suit these beautiful heritage windows. Floor length curtains hung from close to the ceiling work with this look. If you do really want blinds rather than curtains then a Roman blind hung so that it doesn’t cover the glass when open.
