Kitchens Laundry Design Dilemma

Kitchen splash back and laundry

Hi guys

We have recently done kitchen and i hate my tiles… Just horrible…
Also to go out to our backyard
we have to go through our laundry
which i also hate …
I will attach the plans
and the kitchen picture.
Please help with some ideas and renovations for what to do with the laundry .

What don’t you like about the tiles? If it is the colour, then get them painted in white or a colour that you do like. The pattern adds interest. What are the measurements of the laundry/bath room? Is the dark line a door to the laundry from kitchen? Why did you spend so much money on the kitchen without looking at the overall improvement of your entire home at the same time?

Just went on to realestate for photos of the laundry space. The photos show a good space doing a lot of necessary things. You could put a beautiful curtain hanging from the ceiling the full length of the room. Do you require the two troughs, this could be reduced to one to allow the curtain to go to window wall. This is the first inexpensive option. The more expensive option is to rearrange the entire room and it’s components, and build a new wall and create a walkway to outside. Oh and I see the door to laundry is actually at the dining room end, which the plan does not show.

The house looks very livable. I love that you have concentrated on creating one nice bath with separate walk in shower and a windowed tub! Since you have already thought of it, I'm going to assume that the attic is for future expansion and cannot be adapted for use as the current "away room." We are also in the process of designing a small house, and we've designated our study as the "away room." Ours will open off the dining room. If you switched the locations of the Study and Bed 1 on the same side, you could put french doors or an extra wide door with etched or decorative glass from the hallway into the right hand corner of the study. This would give you a really long diagonal view through the lounge and out the french doors, and from the lounge through the study to the window at the far end... The study window should be increased in width to match the neighboring window in Bed 1, and it then becomes ripe for a small window seat, either a clip on bay bumping out, or a "built-in" bay using narrow built ins on either side. Or both: build "in" for now, putting file cabinet drawers under the window seat, and angled corner units in for storage, and add the bump out bay later when you know whether your offspring would prefer a really cute desk, or a window seat, or a bed nook. You would, alas, lose the door from Bed 1 into the bath.... but honestly, there are lot of doors into that bathroom already, and that one has substantial collision potential. It might be best to make the single access point that door from the laundry. Either a glass panel set high in the bath room doors or a transome would make it easy to tell when someone is in the loo. Other ideas would be to split the nook under the stairs, so that half the depth opens to the lounge, and the other half to Bed2... with the wall thickness, you probably get close to 600mm or 2' on each side. Add a deep bookcase or other built in, and you're easily at a depth that makes both spaces very tucked in. Lastly, if funds allow a shallow bay window over the kitchen sink would visually expand the kitchen, particularly if you could arrange it so that the counter runs right into the bay.

The blue is awesome (grey is too trendy)! The reason it stands out to you is perhaps because it's the only real colour there. Bring in the blue in a window treatment, a small appliance that sits on the counter, a pretty tray or area rug. Also, it is more appealing often if there are more than 2 colours - so right now you have a white and blue colour scheme - bring in red or orange or fushia - something from the other side of the spectrum (like you did with the yellow flowers but in a more permanent way)!

We’ve renovated and are just waiting on the guy to come and fit our laundry cabinets..... he said he was coming one day.... then didn’t show up, gave another day and time ...didn’t show up...and then said last Thursday 8am... well it’s now 1.45am Mon morning and he hasn’t had the decency or courtesy to even ring or return our calls .... so we are now in the same position as you... I see hes here on houzz so, maybe a review will warn others ... anyway good luck with your laundry!!

I wouldn’t love the tiles either. That’s a lot of lines. The cheapest fix would be to try a grey grout pen that matches the tile colour. It may reduce the busyness.

There is a lot you can do with laundry. Under the window replace existing cabinets putting a bench right along wall over the washer, remover the washing machine taps and plumbing it to new sink. Integrate the sink as undermount in new bench. The second thing is this is a bathroom too. If budget allows I would redo bathroom as it’s own room accessed from entry to bedroom 5. With kitchen I am not a fan of the tile colour and would look at removing the tiles above sill height on sunroom wall and just painting that area. Add some colour with kettle toaster etc. removing the tiles will simplify the view removing some distraction. If you hadn’t already renovated kitchen I wonder if it was not better in the wip corner allowing the window to be an entry to sunroom. Relocate sink?

Simpler option maintaining shower just relocating vanity to enclose bathroom. Also change to laundry try and conceal washer behind door. You will bed a deeper cabinet but well worth it and move sink to the right so it is less on show.
