Help! Narrow side yard landscape ideas needed!

Help ! Ideas please! I have a narrow side yard between myself and my neighbor measures 50' x 8 to 10 feet. Want low-water , low maintenance pebbles, succulents. There is a six-foot high white vynal fence on one side and my house on the other side with the window from my house. And ugly pool equipment !Need low maintenance shrubs against the white fence that will grow to about 8 feet in height for privacy... I currently have Pittosporum tenufolium (kohuhu) along the rest of the length of the fence near the pool. house in Thousand Oaks , California.

You have a narrow space (= sun questions, depending on the orientation), water use issues, things you want to conceal, noises to abate, and you want to create views. This is a great project for a landscape designer!

I think I would just do a stone pathway and ground cover

Paint the inside of your door the white trim color, it will soften the space and make it seem larger. Add 2 large art pieces on the left wall and a larger vertical mirror on the right side. Paint wall color to match whatever color is adjacent to the space. Add a patterned rug with color to the walkway.

The fence will end up being a modern picket fence, We aren't sure if we should grass the two squares or plant it out, it's a nice sunny spot, but we have nosey neighbours that we are trying to make disappear, if then it becomes more private then a seated area could be really nice, Hopefully the right plants will work or we will have to go with plan B, of installing barbed wire and two wild Dobermans!

We had a landscaper come in and draw a plan. Re-used the whole bricks into a grid pattern, and filled the squares with concrete. This summer's job is to build the bench seats around the outside for a seating area. The flat surface has been great for our children - they learned to ride their bikes out here, and love decorating it :-)

I was thinking a structure around the fireplace so you can still entertain and keep the fire going without worrying about the wind blowing it out. I also think some new grass would be what you need to brighten up the area as it's looking a bit dead (but that could just be due to the cold weather)
