We feel a major design fault of our two level, cedar home is the front door opens into the lounge. The door also faces the prevailing wind, so rain does come in sometimes and our visitors get wet while they are waiting at the door. We are trying to design an extension to the rather narrow porch which we feeel would be more welcoming and at the same time, keep people dry. There are circular decks all around the house. We like the idea of poles, with perhaps a vertical slatted wall on the prevaling wind side and a roof in the same longline roofing as the house. It isn't clear in the picture, but this is an off white colour. We also like the idea of the same decking out from the front door, with wide steps off to the side to join up with the path, rather than tiles and the timber steps that are there now. This should direct visitors to our front door better as the driveway goes straight to the double garage and the path to the front door is off that. Any suggestions would be very welcome!
