A mid-tone blue vanity in a Dallas master bathroom

This 1950’s mid century ranch had good bones, but was not all that it could be - especially for a family of four. The entrance, bathrooms and mudroom lacked storage space and felt dark and dingy. The main bathroom was transformed back to its original charm with modern updates by moving the tub underneath the window, adding in a double vanity and a built-in laundry hamper and shelves. Casework used satin nickel hardware, handmade tile, and a custom oak vanity with finger pulls instead of hardware to create a neutral, clean bathroom that is still inviting and relaxing. The entry reflects this natural warmth with a custom built-in bench and subtle marbled wallpaper. The combined laundry, mudroom and boy's bath feature an extremely durable watery blue cement tile and more custom oak built-in pieces. Overall, this renovation created a more functional space with a neutral but warm palette and minimalistic details. Reconstruction of 1921 California Bungalow to create a more open floor plan. The redesign completed by Envelope A+D reoriented the floor plan toward the back garden. The renovation included the kitchen and bath as well as an update of all systems and services. Walls in this distinct bath are a special shower plaster that provided a deep color while remaining watertight.

This bathroom was completely gutted and laid out in a more functional way. The shower/tub combo was moved from the left side to the back of the bathroom on exterior wall.

In addition to updating the finishes to better suit the client's style, they also wanted a more open space.

Design Craft Maple frameless Brookhill door with flat center panel in Frappe Classic paint vanity with a white solid cultured marble countertop with two Wave bowls and 4” high backsplash. Moen Eva collection includes faucets, towel bars, paper holder and vanity light. Kohler comfort height toilet and Sterling Vikrell shower unit. On the floor is 8x8 decorative Glazzio Positano Cottage tile.

Dans cette salle de bain pour enfants nous avons voulu faire un mélange de carreaux de faïence entre le motif damier et la pose de carreaux navettes. La pose est extrèmement minutieuse notamment dans le raccord couleurs entre le terracotta et le carreau blanc.

This artistic and design-forward family approached us at the beginning of the pandemic with a design prompt to blend their love of midcentury modern design with their Caribbean roots. With her parents originating from Trinidad & Tobago and his parents from Jamaica, they wanted their home to be an authentic representation of their heritage, with a midcentury modern twist. We found inspiration from a colorful Trinidad & Tobago tourism poster that they already owned and carried the tropical colors throughout the house — rich blues in the main bathroom, deep greens and oranges in the powder bathroom, mustard yellow in the dining room and guest bathroom, and sage green in the kitchen. This project was featured on Dwell in January 2022.

We installed vintage style floor tiles, wall lights, tongue & groove panelling, a back to wall toilet & built in joinery in the downstairs loo of the Balham Traditional Family Home
