Custom Walnut "Floating" Vanity with custom handles with Fireclay Wall Tile

Remodel and addition to classic California bungalow.

Dutton Architects did an extensive renovation of a post and beam mid-century modern house in the canyons of Beverly Hills. The house was brought down to the studs, with new interior and exterior finishes, windows and doors, lighting, etc. A secure exterior door allows the visitor to enter into a garden before arriving at a glass wall and door that leads inside, allowing the house to feel as if the front garden is part of the interior space. Drought tolerant landscape done to add major curb appeal

Attractive mid-century modern home built in 1957. Scope of work for this design/build remodel included reworking the space for an open floor plan, making this home feel modern while keeping some of the homes original charm. We completely reconfigured the entry and stair case, moved walls and installed a free span ridge beam to allow for an open concept. Some of the custom features were 2 sided fireplace surround, new metal railings with a walnut cap, a hand crafted walnut door surround, and last but not least a big beautiful custom kitchen with an enormous island. Exterior work included a new metal roof, siding and new windows.

With no windows or natural light, we used a combination of artificial light, open space, and white walls to brighten this master bath remodel. Over the white, we layered a sophisticated palette of finishes that embrace color, pattern, and texture: 1) long hex accent tile in “lemongrass” gold from Walker Zanger (mounted vertically for a new take on mid-century aesthetics); 2) large format slate gray floor tile to ground the room; 3) textured 2X10 glossy white shower field tile (can’t resist touching it); 4) rich walnut wraps with heavy graining to define task areas; and 5) dirty blue accessories to provide contrast and interest. Bed room area with queen size bed. 2 swing arm wall scones to save space of side tables. They are made of brass so add that stylish kick! Mid century home-office corner with a small desk and a classic mid century arm chair. Small rugs always add a touch of color and polish the entire room look without blocking it!
