This eclectic kitchen design in Mission Viejo-Lake View brings light into the space through a large window, which is then beautifully reflected in the mirror paneled pantry doors. The mirrors add depth and light to the space, giving the kitchen a bright, airy feel. Glass pendant lights, recessed lighting, and under- and in-cabinet lights complete the multi-layered lighting design. The Columbia Cabinetry recessed panel kitchen cabinets bring a traditional foundation to the kitchen design. White perimeter cabinetry includes glass front upper cabinets with in cabinet lighting, offering the perfect place to display dishes and glassware. The open plan post and beam interior (seen from the family room) is segmented only by ceiling height changes as the wood floors and ceilings continue from area to area. It was this open feeling that caused the owners to search for a kitchen solution that would furnish the wide open kitchen that could be seen from all the adjacent areas. In addition, they did not want to cover up all the structural posts, beams and braces with wall to wall cabinetry. In the foreground, the storage unit above the counter top level conceals the messy sink area from view, while allowing the cook to be part of whatever is going on.

1. What Makes a Good Eclectic Kitchen Design, and Why is it Important?

For starters, you want to find a balance between aesthetics and function. You may have heard of the ‘kitchen work triangle’, which refers to the space between your fridge, sink and stove. You want everything within easy reach when you’re working in the kitchen and look beautiful at the same time. It’s a good idea to take note of both when browsing our photo gallery.
