The Barefoot Bay Cottage is the first-holiday house to be designed and built for boutique accommodation business, Barefoot Escapes (www.barefootescapes.com.au). Working with many of The Designory’s favourite brands, it has been designed with an overriding luxe Australian coastal style synonymous with Sydney based team. The newly renovated three bedroom cottage is a north facing home which has been designed to capture the sun and the cooling summer breeze. Inside, the home is light-filled, open plan and imbues instant calm with a luxe palette of coastal and hinterland tones. The contemporary styling includes layering of earthy, tribal and natural textures throughout providing a sense of cohesiveness and instant tranquillity allowing guests to prioritise rest and rejuvenation.

Combining mixed materials to accentuate the symmetrical design of this facade, brickwork is complimented by timber blades and cladding. Despite the small size of the lot, site responsive design and colour selections have ensured that the home embraces its site restrictions without detracting from aesthetic appeal.

The kitchen looks out over the backyard and into the trees.

A four bedroom, two bathroom functional design that wraps around a central courtyard. This home embraces Mother Nature's natural light as much as possible. Whatever the season the sun has been embraced in the solar passive home, from the strategically placed north face openings directing light to the thermal mass exposed concrete slab, to the clerestory windows harnessing the sun into the exposed feature brick wall. Feature brickwork and concrete flooring flow from the interior to the exterior, marrying together to create a seamless connection. Rooftop gardens, thoughtful landscaping and cascading plants surrounding the alfresco and balcony further blurs this indoor/outdoor line.

A unique and innovative design, combining the requirements of regular entertainers with busy family lives looking for style and drama in what was a compact space.
The redesigned kitchen has space for sit-down meals, work zones for laptops on the large table, and encourages an open atmosphere allowing of lively conversation during food prep, meal times or when friends drop by.
The new concept creates space by not only opening up the initial floor plan, but through the creative use of a two-tiered island benchtop, a stylish solution that further sets this kitchen apart. The upper work bench is crafted from Quantum Quartz Gris Fuma stone, utilizing man made stone’s practicality and durability, while the lower custom designed timber table showcases the beauty of Natural Calacatta Honed Marble.

The brief given for this home, was quite simply to increase on the existing footprint of the kitchen with the adjoining living room to provide for the larger family setting. The owners were very much set on a Hampton's style with clean lines, with the decorative elements being picked up in the island bench features and the rangehood design.
A corner angled pantry was removed which gave scope back to providing simple clean lines for the joinery and a dedicated space for the cooking zone, as well as a washing zone with a butler's sink, a feature point overlooking the backyard pool. Additional tall storage was provided along the rear wall, including an appliance cabinet to hide all the clutter, fulfilling the brief for this busy family.
It was important to create a flow of space between indoor and outdoor settings, with the backyard pool an entertaining space. We installed a larger window, where the natural light that comes with this works beautifully with the white palette and the parquetry floor.
The client's came to us wanting a design that was going to open up their small backyard and give them somewhere for their family to enjoy and entertain for many years to come.
This project presented many technical challenges due to the levels required to comply with various building regulations. Clever adaptations such privacy screens, floating deck entry and hidden pool gate behind the raised feature wall were all design elements that make this project more suitable to the smaller area.
The main design feature that was a key to the functionality of this pool was the raised infinity edge, with the pool wall designed to comply with current pool barrier standards. With no pool fence between the pool and house the space appears more open with the noise of the water falling over the edge into a carefully concealed balance tank adding a very tranquil ambience to the outdoor area.
With the accompanying fire pit and sitting area, this space not only looks amazing but is functional all year round and the low maintenance fully automated pool cleaning system provides easy operation and maintenance.
