Existing layout featured:
– Inadequate bench space in the cooking zone
– An impractical and overly large walk in pantry
– Torturous angles in the design of the house made work zones cramped with a frenetic aesthetic at odds
with the linear skylights creating disharmony and an unbalanced feel to the entire space.
– Unappealing seating zones, not utilising the amazing view or north face space
WISH LIST
– Comfortable retreat for two people and extend family, with space for multiple cooks to work in the kitchen together or to a functional work zone for a couple.
DESIGN SOLUTION
– Removal of awkward angle walls creating more space for a larger kitchen
– External angles which couldn’t be modified are hidden, creating a rational, serene space where the skylights run parallel to walls and fittings.

LudilyL’objectif principal de ce projet a été de réorganiser entièrement les espaces en insufflant une atmosphère épurée empreinte de poésie, tout en respectant les volumes et l’histoire de la construction, ici celle de Charles Dalmas, le majestueux Grand Palais de Nice. Suite à la dépose de l’ensemble des murs et à la restructuration de la marche en avant, la lumière naturelle a pu s’inviter dans l’ensemble de l’appartement, créant une entrée naturellement lumineuse. Dans le double séjour, la hauteur sous plafond a été conservée, le charme de l’haussmannien s’est invité grâce aux détails architecturaux atypiques comme les corniches, la niche, la moulure qui vient englober les miroirs.
La cuisine, située initialement au fond de l’appartement, est désormais au cœur de celui-ci et devient un véritable lieu de rencontre. Une niche traversante délimite le double séjour de l’entrée et permet de créer deux passages distincts. Cet espace, composé d’une subtile association de lignes orthogonales, trouve son équilibre dans un mélange de rose poudré, de laiton doré et de quartz blanc pur. La table ronde en verre aux pieds laiton doré devient un élément sculptural autour duquel la cuisine s’organise.
L’ensemble des placards est de couleur blanc pur, pour fusionner avec les murs de l’appartement. Les salles de bain sont dans l’ensemble carrelées de zellige rectangulaire blanc, avec une robinetterie fabriqué main en France, des luminaires et des accessoires en finition laiton doré réchauffant ces espaces.
La suite parentale qui remplace l’ancien séjour, est adoucie par un blanc chaud ainsi qu’un parquet en chêne massif posé droit. Le changement de zone est marqué par une baguette en laiton et un sol différent, ici une mosaïque bâton rompu en marbre distinguant l’arrivée dans la salle de bain. Cette dernière a été pensée comme un cocon, refuge de douceur.

This lovely family home is taken to the next level of chic with its classic black and white kitchen.
Gorgeous classic cabinetry has been selected, with shaker doors and detailed panelling on the island. Being only a small space, the overhead cupboards remain handless to ensure the kitchen does not appear cluttered and the gorgeous Quantum Quartz stone benchtop is repeated on the splashback so as not to distract the eye.
Sticking true to the colour palette and classic feel the client selected any chef’s dream oven, a SMEG’s iconic freestanding Victoria Oven. The black Zip Tap gives modern convenience while blending with the aesthetics of the kitchen. We love the slim, black handles by Castella once again ensuring the eye is not distracted. And the beautiful, fluted farmhouse style sink by ABI Interiors is a subtle change of texture and interest while being the pinnacle of a classical kitchen.
Being a small kitchen, the client used smart joinery to ensure no space was wasted. With a purpose-built pantry to house drinks station keeps counters clutter free. Drawers with glass fronts are used in the pantry, ensuring items aren’t lost. Hafele LeMans corner unit is used to get into those pesky corners, and two-tier pantry pullouts ensure the smaller spaces are maximized. And Hafele Pull-Out Rubbish Bins means everything has its place.
We love the client’s choice of bar stools, gorgeous black velvet with gold tip feet, the only step away from the black and white palette, they are classic and chic. The pendant lights with their handblown glass and metal feature are keeping with the classic styling.
All this is taking place upon a lovely canvas of timber look tiles, laid in a classic Chevron pattern that runs the length of the home, giving added visual interest to this gorgeous family home located in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs.
