The Artists Hands - Faux Finishes
Evocative!! This niche was once barely noticeable so high up on this stairway wall. Now it boasts a new Moroccan inspired style. Our colorful use of metallic plasters, glass beads and variegated metallic leaf have given this niche a new identity and presence. Copyright © 2016 The Artists Hands

When we embarked on designing this Santa-Barbara style townhome located on Craig Ranch’s prestigious 17th green, we immediately started visualizing the modern improvements we would make to reflect the clients’ true style. Lighting throughout the home was first on the list, then came floor coverings, wall coverings, and furnishings! Introducing brighter colors, modern frames, and bold patterns were key to balance out the heavier dark wood elements of both the home’s original architecture and some of the client’s existing pieces. Whimsical touches, elegant appointments, and sophisticated style are prevalent throughout this new modernized abode. creating a fresh feel in each room.

When the front door opens - this is a wow. This lovely spiral acts as a design anchor in this nautically designed beachfront cottage. Wave pattern treads and bronzed balustrade and metalwork complete the look. The stair provides access to the guest quarters and suite making the journey and memory of this place just that much more dramatic.

The staircase leads to the catwalk overlooking the two-story great room. And of course to a bunch of bedrooms.
Domus Nova
Inside, a beautiful wrought-iron Victorian staircase connects each floor. The stairwell that sits central to the home reminds us that the property is far from ordinary; painted every colour imaginable with vibrant artworks and a Central line tube map print acknowledging its location.

Defining the space between the kitchen and the informal dining room is a console table flanked on both sides by vintage lucite draperies. Jennifer had purchased them without having a plan in mind, and until recently, they stayed in the same bag that she brought them home in 17 years ago.
Jennifer recalls the numerous times that she had tried selling these pieces over the years, to no avail. "Once I took them out of storage and hung them, anyone that saw them wanted to know where they came from!" she laughs.

Century Stair Company
Century Stair met the architect's expectations by fabricating and installing a staircase that matched his aesthetic standards and high-end finishes; the clean and crisp zig-zag stringers were created by joining together modules of thick oak risers and nose less oak treads (fixed to the side walls with concealed joinery). A geometrical carpet selected by the owner, with subtle patterns and tones, makes this exquisitely proportioned stair work with the metal balustrade system and the home's elegant and eclectic interior design. Century Stair's artistic and technological achievements are proudly presented with this residential project. CSC © 1976-2020 Century Stair Company. All rights reserved.

I worked with my client to create a home that looked and functioned beautifully whilst minimising the impact on the environment. We reused furniture where possible, sourced antiques and used sustainable products where possible, ensuring we combined deliveries and used UK based companies where possible. The result is a unique family home.
We retained as much of the original arts and crafts features of this entrance hall including the oak floors, stair and balustrade. Mixing patterns through the stair runner, antique rug and alcove wallpaper creates an airy, yet warm and unique entrance.
