Goodwin Heart Pine Company
When rustic meets modern farmhouse the yielded results are superb. The floor and beams are Goodwin’s LEGACY (building reclaimed) CHARACTER & NAILY grades in a 4/6/8 mix (3-1/4”, 5-1-/4”, 7”). Attributes include nail holes and nail staining, more frequent and larger knots, and some face checks that help tell the story of the industrial era wood. This Ames, Iowa project was completed by Barnum Floors of Clive, Iowa and general contractor Chaden Halfhill of Silent Rivers Design+Build . Photos supplied by Silent Rivers Design+Build. This custom designed and handcrafted entertainment center not only conceals the TV and all electronic equipment but is a unique anchor to the space. The black cabinet doors are accented with silver metal stripes.
A 3-dimensional stainless steel mosaic fills the immediate area around the linear gas fireplace.
Blending traditional and contemporary furniture creates a cozy area for watching TV or hosting a party.

The ballroom is the heart of the house, featuring oversized wooden doors and windows that frame views of giant pine trees and Pasadena in the distance. The twelve-foot-tall pivot doors open onto the main terrace, which overlooks the gardens and game courts. White glass columnar light boxes and globes, recessed into skylights and clustered around the chandelier, provide ample lighting. The teak slab dining tables and antique carved wood bar complement a richly textured floor of ‘leathered’ granite and the oversized marble mantelpiece.

Owner, architect, and site merged a design from their mutual association with the river.
Located on the edge of Goose Creek, the owner was drawn to the site, reminiscent of a river from his youth that he used to tube down with friends and a 6-pack of beer. The architect, although growing up a country way, had similar memories along the water.
Design gains momentum from conversations of built forms they recall floating along: mills and industrial compounds lining waterways that once acted as their lifeline. The common memories of floating past stone abutments and looking up at timber trussed bridges from below inform the interior. The concept extends into the hardscape in piers, and terraces that recall those partial elements remaining in and around the river.

We honed the existing marble at the fireplace surround and painted the walls a dark color to blend with the fireplace. We brought in color with a velvet sofa, green and white draperies and floral pillows on the chairs.
