This two-bed property in East London is a great example of clever spatial planning. The room was 1.4m by 4.2m, so we didn't have much to work with. We made the most of the space by integrating slimline appliances, such as the 450 dishwasher and 150 wine cooler. This enabled the client to have exactly what they wanted in the kitchen function-wise, along with having a really nicely designed space that worked with the industrial nature of the property.

Accenting the teal glass backsplash tile is the cozy window seat with a colorful vibrant diamond pattern. In Small spaces you need to maximize every inch. In this space a custom bench seat was made to not only cozy up and read a book but also to use as storage for bigger beach items like umbrellas and an additional air mattress! A reading light and plug were added to the wall for additional light while reading and a place to change your phone while in use. The layered patterned pillows add fun and excitement to the small corner space. With a touch of beach decor the small studio apartment does not become overwhelmed with clique items. This Craftsman style kitchen displays warm earth tones between the cabinetry and various stone details. Richly stained quartersawn red oak cabinetry in a shaker door style feature simple mullion details and dark metal hardware. Slate backsplash tiles, granite countertops, and a marble sink complement each other as stunning natural elements. Mixed metals bridge the gap between the historical Craftsman style and current trends, creating a timeless look. Zachary Seib Photography

The home kitchen of a local restaurateur incorporates all the items he deemed necessary for a functional chef's kitchen in a small space. The open shelving and pot rack provide ease of access. The stainless steel counter is durable, easy to sanitize, and beautifully reflective in a room largely lacking natural light. The arched field tiles provide depth and texture in contrast to the crispness of the stainless professional appliances. The green of the tiles and dark stained open cabinet and wood floor harken back to the origins of this 1924 Craftsman home. The stainless counters are by Soupcan

Tired of the original, segmented floor plan of their midcentury home, this young family was ready to make a big change. Inspired by their beloved collection of Heath Ceramics tableware and needing an open space for the family to gather to do homework, make bread, and enjoy Friday Pizza Night…a new kitchen was born. Interior Architecture. Removal of one wall that provided a major obstruction, but no structure, resulted in connection between the family room, dining room, and kitchen. The new open plan allowed for a large island with seating and better flow in and out of the kitchen and garage. Interior Design. Vertically stacked, handmade tiles from Heath Ceramics in Ogawa Green wrap the perimeter backsplash with a nod to midcentury design. A row of white oak slab doors conceal a hidden exhaust hood while offering a sleek modern vibe. Shelves float just below to display beloved tableware, cookbooks, and cherished souvenirs.
