This After photo shows that not everything about a space needs to be changed to create a completely new room. This space feels like a welcoming place to relax.

Located in the heart of the city The InterContinental Hotel in Boston, MA features over 500 rooms, suites, penthouses and residences. One of these penthouses features a natural stone fireplace and wine cooler. The Greenwich Gray Ledgestone Thin Veneer was used in a dry-laid application showing no mortar between the stones. The minimalist space and cool gray walls accent the natural green and gray colors in the stones with decorative accents of red in the sconces and chandeliers. The use of stone around and above the wine cooler is a unique way to create some separation of the kitchen and living room in open concept spaces. Eric Barry Photography Donalds Construction

This living room was a blank canvas to start with. I designed custom cabinetry to incorporate the TV, Media, Storage, Display, a bio ethanol fireplace and even the dining banquette. The colour palette grew from the existing oak timber floors and we added blacks and charcoal grey for some punch with a sprinkling of blue in the accessories and artwork. Its now a homely, relaxing space with a great mix of textures that add the layers of comfort. Designed by Jodie Carter Design, cabinetry built by InVogue Kitchens and photography by Daniella Stein of Daniella Photography.

A charming living room in a quaint Pennsylvania Cottage. The stone fireplace anchors the living space, flanked with a pair of updated wing chairs in a multi-colored floral fabric featuring grey, teal, and green. Turquoise roman shades at the window are enhanced with green braid, while an antique oil painting draws the eye to a mix of vintage accessories on the mantel. A painted round coffee table from Maine Cottage provides ample space to put your feet up while reading books from the custom built bookshelves beneath the windows. . Photography by Jon Friedrich

A white slip-cover sofa looks lovely in this tone-on-tone living room with the occasional hint of aqua and walnut wood.
