Minimizing Dog Dirt!

We are putting an addition on our rural home, primarily for our Labrador retrievers. The new space is LIVING space (not a kennel) but will be the portion of our house that is "dog-friendly". I'm looking for input on minimizing dirt/dust in that wing. Flooring is pre-existing hardwood and we are looking at doing considerable concrete work/decking around the outside of the home to encourage more dirt being left OUTSIDE. Inside, I'm wondering if things like central vacuuming or HRV might minimize (or be more effective at controlling/ridding) dirt/dust. Also wondering if different finishes of paint are better than others at deterring dirt sticking. In general looking for design/finishing ideas that will minimize dust/dirt adhering, dirtying up corners, laying on trim moldings/skirting, or free flowing around in general. We're not fanatical (or else the dogs wouldn't be in the house!) but just trying to make practical wise choices in the remodeling to make things easier.
