Hi - because of constraints (local authorities and the land) we are working on a simple rectangular outline of about 28' x 40' for our 1100 sq ft cottage, and a 45 degree or so pitch so that we can have a good amount of attic space. I think dormers will be out, as they will cost more and are likely to have the design rejected as having too much living space (the attic doesn't count in the local authority's restrictions).
However, the design ends up looking very boxy and the roof in particular seems very dominant at 14' above the ceiling.
Anyone have any great ideas for modifying this somehow so it looks less tall / toylike?
I've attached a couple of photos of designs that look quite good... However, the first is taller (mostly in the ground floor) than we can really get away with, and the second too boxy.
Thanks!
