8 years agoI love complex colour schemes - try something like this with olive, sage and petrol as the dominant colours to offset the greys of the concrete. It will work with the yellows/grey/beige tones of the London stock brick and help to bridge the gap between the yellow and grey.
Have fun with it - I always add colour to my projects and everyone always ummms and ahhs but loves the finished result because it feels like their house not a show home ! But the trick is to find a colour that really does it for you and weave that in. Then you'll never tire of it.

Comments (18)Hello Marcelle, I am an interior designer . I can tell you a simple inexpensive way to change the look of your kitchen. Looking at the photo you sent the different cabinet heights , and all the objects on the stove wall are very busy . Your modern house is wanting a cleaner , simple look. I would lower the small cabinets so that the top is at the same height as the others in the room. And put doors on , that will hide the clutter. Next I would do a tile backsplash above the stove , up to the same height. The whole kitchen will be pulled together by the continuous top line. There is a small light wood cabinet with baskets in the foreground . I would paint it white , or the same dark accent color of the cabinets you have. My town house unit is under complete exterior re-cladding works, prompting quite substantial interior makeover (i.e installtion of ducted air con, replacing wall to wall carpet with timber upstairs, and tiles in open space downstaris, replacing creamy wall paper will be replaced with neutral white paint. So my green kitchen with creamy formica counter (bench) top should go. I don't hate green simply had egounh of it after long 15 yeras! My small U shape kitchen is due for complete makeover, I think! I'll probably go with new cabinets (lower one for microwave) up to the ceiling, when move fridge at the end I'll go with panel with matching colour up to the ceiling, expanding counter top on the other side to the fridge. I guess that removal of the cupboard can be compesated with extension of the counter top so we can fit 3x drawer underneath and cabinets up to the ceiling can provide some useful storage space. Comments (1)With the pantry being located where it is, it provides a opportunity to make it inbuilt and continue your bench top along. This would then provide more bench space and would make sure you are using that wall to its full potential. However for space and flow and to make your kitchen more ascetically pleasing, we would suggest keeping the island bench and making the appliances integrated. This provides opportunity to make that far wall a feature wall, which can be as simple as a blackboard or pictures, to making it a colour feature (depending on you cabinetry) or even to make it high class you could create a wood paneling feature. I hope this helps, either way you can add bonus features to your kitchen, you can create more storage and bench space with changing the pantry, or you could make a design feature out of that wall. 8 years agolast modified: 8 years agoHi there, I would juxtapose the exposed brick with sleek and polished surfaces. You could for example leave the exposed brick just above the first shelf but install coloured glass splashback just underneath the first shelf. That would be practical for cleaning and you could introduce a splash of colour there. The colours that I find look good with brick is mustard yellow and teal, but you could experiment with others such as dark blue and orange. I have put together a moodboard for you and you could put together something similar with other colours if you want or we could provide a colour consultation for you if you wish to take into account the aspect of the room and the overall levels of natural and artificial lighting.

8 years agoThanks so much for your comments and tips. All very helpful! Here's a couple of pics to show the finished result, and tiles from Marrakech design that we'll be putting on the splashback. Still need to make a big waney edged plank and steel table to finish it off.
