Tile question when redoing a shower

I have to redo the tile in our master bath shower. I cannot get the same tile to match the rest of the master bath. Any suggestions on what I could do? I am thinking of the bottom 2 feet around the shower with bench and the floor in shower.

A slab floor and walls in Granite, marble or Quartz will give you a seamless grout free alternative that is easy clean. I have included a picture of work we have done for reference.

A slab can be great, but I'm not sure exactly what part of the tile you need to remove or what problem you're solving, so it might not be the right solution. Are you sure this isn't something that could be solved with regrouting?

It's very hard to remove only part of existing tile -- you tend to break or crack surrounding tiles, and even if not, it can be hard to get everything to make a smooth plane again. And that's with matching tile. Usually I'd say completely retile the shower, but with the continuous pattern, I can see that just about any approach is hard. The best I can think is a deliberate contrast, maybe a gray tone taken from the current accent tile, and use it to make an interesting pattern around the shower . Maybe you could get a floor tile that's a mix of that new tone with something similar to the current wall or floor tile. The best way to sell any of this as intentional would be to use a little of the new tile somewhere across the room, such as behind the vanity. But honestly, it's going to be very hard to get an effect that's anything other than a two-toned automotive paint job.

My inclination would be to keep the tub deck and bench and take out all of the wall tile all the way around, even if it continues past the tub (I think I see bullnose in your second pic, but not sure), and then replace the floor and walls with something that coordinates with the existing tile but gives a new look. You might even end up making it more updated. Anyway, I think that's the only way you're going to be really happy with the outcome. Sorry.

I would suggest you take out the cabinet that is to the right of the stove and use it elsewhere in the house -- perhaps in the bathroom or dining room with a hutch above it. Then, I would suggest you have someone install a lazy susan cabinet in the corner between the sink counter and the stove, meaning you would move the stove down a bit and have a small cabinet/counter top to the right of the stove. I would suggest you have the cabinets refinished in white and then paint the walls a pastel you like. If you would prefer white walls, then add white-painted crown molding and paint the ceiling a light neutral blue, such as Sherwin Williams Niagara Falls Blue. Then, I would suggest you choose a favorite accent color and use this sparingly in accessories like towels, pot holders, small vases or floral arrangements, and a valence above the triple windows. For a genuine 1940s look, you might have white ceramic square tiles with a rectangular red border installed as a back splash behind and above the stove. If you are replacing counter tops, I would suggest a light color such as white with a beige or light grey vein or striation for some sort of pattern. You might be able to find the same color and design in floor tile OR opt for a wood floor as another poster suggested.

I agree with emily. if you want leave connections and/or a little extra room for what you don't want, but feel you may need for resale. I think the tub is a pretty important item. wet room not at all, and shower is give or take. i would prefer a big shower and a tub for soaking in, but I have always had the combo. I remember my mom built during big wet bar craze, she did not care for one. had space built, capped off connections and use as a closet. Now it is 35 years later, everyone wants to buy and tear down. Darned if you do, darned if you don't. i agree, I would also really like the separate toilet, we are not share everything people.

We have that exact sink! And a very small powder room stuck in the 80s. Only difference is our door is on a side wall, and there is no window. We're no where near finished, but just ripping down the pink floral and stripey wall paper has made a huge difference (including revealing the toilet is in fact white, not pale pink). We're going to replace the rather unappealing plastic sink with a tiny ceramic one with new taps, and the old plastic cistern with a new colonial style ceramic one, and new seat (keeping the toilet base as it is in good condition, and classic style). Then new paint, and a good clean and regrout to the floor, new light shade, toilet roll holder, storage in one corner and art.

We had the same issue in an old kitchen, we went with Coopers, There is a stripper then wax that will soak in. The stripper is in spray bottles, but I'd send the dogs on holiday or keep them outside while you're doing it. It'll take some elbow wax, but will look amazing when you're finished. Good luck!
