Can you incorporate teal into accessories instead? Or at very least paint the island or pantry door teal? Post some pics. I wouldn't do an entire kitchen in teal cabinets.

I think you need to figure out whether this is your forever home, or something you'll be selling in a few years. If it's forever, go for it. If you plan to live in it a few years and move on, I say, forget it. I have looked at several hundred houses over the last decade, and one in particular was a very nice house but all the cabinetry was in dark teal. Problem is, I have a lot of oriental rugs and paintings with crimson reds, indigo blues, deep greens in the mix. No way they go with teal. So, no sale.

If you're not worried about selling within the lifetime of the cabinets, go for it. If you are thinking about a shorter term, go neutral or wood: it widens the list of potential buyers.

I think teal is a real statement for cabinets so unless this is your favorite color for all your life and a forever home I would be inclined to use teal as an accent even a wall. I find my clients get a color in their head and it comes from seeing it in some picture they liked or whatever but 2 yrs later they don’t like the color anymore and we are changing many things .

I'm not a fan of teal backsplashes and love teal as a wall color but not the impact I am wanting. The kitchen will have a white backsplash and the entire great room painted off white. I have always envisioned the teal kitchen as the show stopper.

My vision for the island is a stained wood.

We do plan on having this home be our forever home (knock on wood) the only reason we would leave is finical.

Teal is my favorite color and has been since I was a child. My love for teal isn't going anywhere. I'm just concerned.

You could do bottom cabinets teal and top white.

It seems to me that even a white kitchen is going to need painting in 12 to 15 years, perhaps sooner. Any painted cabinets can be repainted, although the newer coats might not be as tough as the factory finished first coats. So, go with what you like. Our present fear of expensive home surfaces becoming dated is interfering with people designing and decorating their homes in their own personal style - yes I see way to many kitchens which all look the same, even if they are lovely. I found the Parade Homes this past year to be so boring - I thought maybe it was just me but my daughters agreed. I think it is sad we have become fearful to express ourselves in our own homes.

i was with your choice for teal til you said its an open concept home. that means everything in all of the other rooms has to co ordinate with the teal.... thats a big commitment.

I've helped clients remodel kitchens with white cabinets and they look beautiful. I will say though, as a kitchen and bath designer, I keep track of trendy and classic kitchen designs and color scheme is the first thing to date a kitchen. EVERYONE is doing white cabinets right now and if you can be brave enough to do a teal color you might be able to avoid having a color that will date your kitchen, like golden oak cabinets from the 90s. We bought our 1960 house with teal cabinets and I love them! I think the original owner painted them in the late 70s/early 80s. The color is close to Behr Greensleeves. We updated the kitchen with a white tile backsplash and granite counters, and I get tons of compliments. Be brave. Go for the teal :)

How long do you plan to be in the house? Unless you have absolute, definite plans to move inside of 5 years, I say GO with the teal! I wouldn't have always said that, mind you -- all the worrying about resale, etc. But I'm getting old, LOL! Really, how long do you want to live with "second choice"? We bought our house in 2000 figuring, eh, 6 or 8 years max and yet here we still are, and probably will be for the next 10. Time really does fly! You sound so certain of your choice (and that inspiration room is FABulous!!!) You definitely know what you want, so go for it. The fact is, yes, that choice may limit you at resale, whenever that day may come. But people deal with things. You will, too.

My only advice would be to find a really competent decorator and/or color consultant to work with you on harmonizing your bold kitchen choice with the rest of your open concept area. Good luck and please let us know how it goes. I really will be curious to see what you do!

I like your inspirational photos, but the color you linked in your post is a lot darker -- combine that with black counters, and I fear your kitchen could be a black hole in your open space. That's why you're getting questions about whether you get as much light as those kitchens have. Otherwise, you might want to go lighter on at least one of the two elements.

Why not. Go for the teal, but test, test, test first as it must be perfect. But a big no to the black countertops as your chosen color is so dark. I would go with either zinc, wood, or white stone.

Not sure how you decided that Cascades was your color, because it doesn't come close to matching your first inspiration picture. Way more blue than those cabinets.

Those deep colors are going to eat room light like crazy, so make sure you factor that into your decision.

If you have loved teal for years, you probably are not going to change your mind. You like what you like. But you could do the cabinets in a wood stain and the island in teal. Then if you had to sell, it's easier to repaint an island than all the cabinets. And do lots and lots of teal accessories!

That isn't what I thought of as teal, seems more like evergreen. It's a very deep color and I don't think that's a trend. Painted cabinets can always be painted again, fairly easily and inexpensively. Will this color coordinate with other hues in your home?

Cabinets finished like our Porcelana finish in a dark teal would be stunning.

Years later, I'm curious if OP went with the teal and has photos? We're currently going teal for our bottoms, and a very light gray for the uppers. Already in love with it.
