No baseboards

We are building and haven't put baseboards in . I like the look of no baseboards and trim. Is it possible to not put baseboards in we are at painting stage? How do you finish to the floor Also, I like the look of no trim around doors , can this be done at this stage as well? I like the clean minimalist look! You did a great job in this condo!

It would be quite the ordeal to do it at this point. We basically left the drywall 6" off the floor and then when the floor was installed we put the 6" piece in and taped everything. If you were to do it now you would have to cut the drywall and install the 6" piece. You would lose the tape Join so there would be a lot more mud involved. To be honest it looks amazing on the pics but the practicality behind it isn't that great. You end up hitting it with your vacuum and denting the drywall.

Thank you never thought of the drywall getting damaged. Aluminum might fix that but likely an expensive option. Thanks anyway!!

I like doors with panels and I like the doors to match the base boards and window + door trim (usually white). Zebra wood is very unique looking. I like art and rugs to get the attention in a room, not the doors. However, I came across gorgeous photo that appears to use flat veneer zebra wood. The baseboards are white. The multi-color slate really enhances this zebra color, too. I could not find the gray hue zebra wood. Do you have a photo or link?

Hi everyone, we have moved in! We didn't manage to paint before we moved and think we will go for a staged approach - above the wood panels first in a warm white then decide on the panels. I love a QUALITY paint job. Few people know the ins and outs of a quality paint job but, a seasoned painter for INTERIORS will have many techniques and processes to dial up the end result. I love my painter and I listen closely to his advice and he is so expert (40 years) and good that he makes it look effortless. BUT IT'S NOT. Will find and post favorite picture of painted trim here. I think the secret is style and proportion of trim and then the quality of the finishing. Did you know most paint curing really needs 2 to 3 weeks to set up as a really good tough finish? "In a hurry" is the curse we mostly experience for improving interiors. I wonder sometimes how different things would be if people took the right amount of time to do things in the time frame related to that finishing task!

Hi Dena,. Another option would be to use standard flat stock Mdf base. Much more economical than metal. Instead of the 6" piece of drywall use a 6" base. They sell a channel to make the gap between the two materials look finished.
