The floor is white Oak and factory finished in light gray stain. I think that this is 7" wide. Almost all manufactures provide only engineered wood for wider strip. This is the engineered as well. Regarding wood spices, if you like natural warm color wood, Maple works. But if you would like to stain, Maple is rather harder wood which means the wood is more dense and doesn't take the color as you wish. It may be better to get the factory finish. Regarding stain color, grey stain is very popular now. Grey color is , however, very tricky and it may not easy to get consistent. I experienced re-stain twice for one project. I recommend the factory finish if you consider gray stain. I hope that this helps.
