They are polished chrome and there are two polished chrome lights on either end of the mirror.

I love that splashback but not with that top....

I'm the opposite to robandlyn! I like the top, would replace the splash back with plain white tiles.

Why couldn't you use the white subway tile? I think the pebble tile dates the whole look. Your current stone with crisp white back splash, chrome and the timber shelf is classic.

That's an idea. I still have the pebbles in the attached toilet/shower area...this is a Jack and Jill bathroom.

Agree with sally wastie: and the more items you add (taps, toothbrush cup, soap...) the busier it will get.

Do you have any preference: countertop or splashback?

I guess I would keep the countertop because it is more expensive to change it as opposed to changing the tile.

As an alternative, you could still paint over any of them with adequate paint. The pebbles will give a nice texture with a plain colour... and/or the countertop in white with scattered silvery bits (not too many) in the paint would look great with the polished chrome taps. I've never done it myself but I can imagine it's a bit of work to do that.

Here is the other part of the bathroom...I could put the white subway in for the backsplash rather than the pebbles.

Start by painting the splash back white and go from there. Have you considered whitening up the walls? This would make difference to the overall look. Is there is bit of grey in the marble - perhaps a charcoal grey would draw attention away from the yellow.

Shouldn't the backsplash be consistent with the accents in the adjoining shower area? The backsplash came in all white, but I don't think that would look good when you see the other 'version' reflected in the mirror.

If you'd like to repeat the white subway tiles could they go on top of the shelf in front of the mirror (or would that be too heavy for the shelf)? And maybe also on the left wall in your picture?
But there's still the busyness between backsplash and counter top to address.

I am going to change the countertop to something really 'quiet'. Just have to find the right color and material.

Maybe this may help.. sometimes when looking at tone, pattern, contrast, and scale it helps to have a few visuals. ;-)

Hia, here are mock ups of a light and dark coloured bench. I agree with what Creative Style interior said, the patterns compete with each other and you can see through the mock-ups that adding a small pattern or shape for the splash back will not necessarily be of any benefit. Apologies, I could not find a simple white subway tile to mock-up, hence even the organic finish one still looked busy with the benchtop as did all the tiles with a small pattern. My recommendation would be to use a very simple and larger subway or regular tile, and this is not for everyone, but it is something I would consider due to the low cost, is to continue with the mirror installed over the bebble splashback. It would not be introducing a new material or colour to what is already heavily patterned space. On the down side, it would require a little more wiping than the bebble splash back, but it would be a lot more cost effective than replacing the granite. As I dont know if this is a 'heavy use family bathroom' I cant say for sure if this is the right choice for you.

To 'lift' and simplify the space I would also consider painting the bathroom a crisp white. Again its a personal choice, but I think there is something really appealing (maybe its subconsciously assosicating white with clean :-)) about white walls in the bathroom and white with timber always looks amazing.

In having, crisp white walls with just the mirror (which will reflect the granite) the granite then becomes the feature or hero. Style with simple accessories, and add some greenery and it will look amazing. Hope this helps.

ps. maybe if you could post a few more photos of the whole bathroom, it may be easier to recommend options, ie. floor, positioning of shower, window, door colours etc..

That's a good idea spmm to put cardboard down and figure out the color.

If you'd like to keep both bathrooms in a similar style you could also have the backsplash tiled in your white subway tiles - but keeping a vertical strip of pebbles (just as you have in that one picture with the showerhead). This could look neat with a countertop in white or in black (like that from MUSE modern interiors' suggestion) or maybe there's a light greyish colour in the pebbles that would work.

Sure you can, lynnwx2005. That was just a suggestion... but I can imagine it would also involve quite some work.

I think it looks quite nice! How did you make this? I also saw Taj Mahal Quartzite at a slab area and the colors work nice with the floor, backsplash and white sink. There is a little movement in it, but nothing like my current crazy granite.

Taj Mahal Quartzite is a lovely stone ... your countertop could look something like this:

Maybe I am wrong but when I look at the picture that shows your flooring, I almost think you might end up having everything in too similar colours... the contrasting dark timber might break it up a little but the main colour impression will be beige.

Hi lynnwx2005 I love the render of the vanity by rubyblue70 with the pebble splashback and white counter top. The white lifts both the pebble and the timber cabinet!

I like the white too, but I'm afraid it is too white...this is the only room in the entire house with any white in it at all. I like the Taj Mahal or maybe the grey or beige? I am torn at this time.

If its stressing you out, my suggestion is for now to tile over the splashback in the white tile you have elsewhere in the bathroom. No feature, just plain white right across, but install the tiles onto a masonry substrate, (ie. glue a protective board in there over, and tile over that) Live with it for a few months, and if you still hate it, remove the tiles and the pebbles willl still be there with minimal glue to remove.

This would be temporary solution and if you decide that you like it, then tile over the pebbles permanently.

At least this way, all it has cost you is a few tiles, and you can revisit it later when you have had more time to consider the choices.

Also, as your granite top is already in, I imagine it would be quite expensive to have a new piece of stone cut, edges polished and installed etc.. You also risk damaging your vanity and the pebble splashback in the process of removing/installing a new top.

Finally, you could do nothing for now. Making decisions like these when you are feeling under pressure to decide is horrendous, a bit of time and the answer will come to you. All the best :-)

Thank you. The builder has given me about 2 weeks to figure out what I want and then they will finish up the bathroom. I don't have too much time to decide. I just know that I hate what I have at the moment. You are right that making decisions when pressured usually doesn't work out well.
